if you had a short lifespan would you also not want the best care?

For many caring for pets becomes a hobby and most hobbies cost a pretty penny, I’ve been owning hamsters since 2009/2010 any expensive supplies I purchase isn’t being thrown out in 2 years, it’s going to be used for many hamsters to enjoy in the future.

Pets also just cost a lot no matter how long they live, if you don’t want to “waste” money you probably shouldn’t get something that is going to continuously cost money in the first place.

And lastly, why does it matter what someone else spends *their* hard-earned money on? I’m sure you have hobbies I wouldn’t bother spending money on either 😅

Even if they only live two years, in their timing, it's 80 years, so giving them the world means the world to them.

I’ve kept hamsters for years, and I stopped when my first child was born as I just didn’t feel I had the time to fully commit to caring for another on top of our cats, dogs and the kids. My eldest is nearly 6 and is always asking me about the hamsters and gerbils I had before and really, really wants to get a hamster. I have enough spare time now I feel I can commit to another hamster, so last year we decided to start saving, planning and prepping to welcome our first family hamster! We’ve had so much fun watching YouTube videos together and my daughter has really enjoyed learning more about hamster care and planning out our cage set up, and I know she’s going to LOVE having “her own” (let’s be realistic - she’s 6, I don’t expect her to do all, or even any of the care and be fully responsible for a pet!!) hamster. So far I’ve spent around £500 on supplies and prepping for the hamster. I’ve literally had family members etc saying it’s ridiculous, over the top and why can’t we just “get a normal hamster cage” etc. Like.. sorry for teaching my kids animals aren’t just disposable novelties and that ANY pet is a serious commitment that should be well planned out.

I recently got my 11 yr old daughter a robo hamster, but now I am the one that has fallen in love with him. I feed him and tame him every night. He was so scared of my hands, but now after a week he’s not afraid of me holding him and petting him. This tiny fur ball has brought so much love to me even tho I only get to spend 15 mins with him each night.

I hate it when ppl say that because it still has a life like what if you were a hamster just bc they small or live a short time doesn’t mean you just don’t take care of them or don’t give them what they need.. :) ❤

I agree they’re worth all the money I’ve spent, unfortunately including surgery costs, vet bills, but more so the treats hides and the pure love and joy I get from seeing them thrive ❤ People tell me all the time that I’m crazy for willing to go to any lengths for my hamsters. They’ve gotten me through some really sad lonely times and that’s priceless!
