I read a quote by someone in an article somewhere. I wish i could reference it. It said that "Pentecostalism will be the death of the black adventist church" and I couldn't agree more. From the schools to the churches to the unconverted converts people are bringing the evangelical traditions and styles into the adventist churches and there is no distinguishing between the two anymore. I used to be the music ministry leader at a black adventist church for 4 years. We only hire and paid Sunday musicians and most of the congregation had come from baptist and other traditionally black denominations. While we tried to pick "tame" and "more conservative" branded music selections from the gospel, ccm, and praise and worship genres- I see now the unmistakable error in my ways . This is not what we have been called to do or partake in. As a professional musician I even had my time in gospel choirs that sounded and acted exactly like this one in the video. ITs performance not worship. unfortunately many black adventists preachers are of this same tradition . They want to scream, holler, clap, jump, pound, and be accompanied by a mutiny of noise to "preach" their messages. im ashamed. yet and still I know many of these people personally who prefer this experience and they are not evil adventists but they are ignorant, uniformed and unconverted. And when i say ignorant, i mean of inspiration. They have rejected the light that has been given us completely. I thought I was sincere while engaging in this type of foolishness. Then God took me on a much deeper dive in my walk with God and for the first time I read inspiration for myself and became truly converted. While I agree that we can still get too judgy about preference and sound and ends up sounding like white is right and everything from other cultures is ungodly, there are principals that matter and it also matters where things have come from. Music by nature is a monkey see money doo type of art form, but the Lord has made us all individuals and he created music to be for His Glory alone. There should be room for individuality as much as it is guided by biblical principals that unify us in the Holy Spirit and Glorify God alone.

I am more of a conservative when it comes to music, but I am careful not to be too quick to judge others and their worship. What makes Adventist music Adventist? Is it because we have been trained to accept Eurocentric music as the way to worship through song? What about Afrocentric music? Is it bad? Do we understand the experiences of those who were singing at campmeeting? Have we heard their testimony. Would
Their music and jewelry forbid them from entering into heaven? Just asking. May God help us all.

I am so glad that the leadership in our SDA church in Brooklyn Cape Town South Africa has maintained the worship service with reverence and the singing from the SDA church hymnal with only a piano accompaniment.

Years ago... When I was a teenager we went to a place called "House of Prayer" in Detroit, I believe? (i was raised, Baptist) It started out fine and then they eventually moved to baptising in the nude. Yes, nude. We are to be of "sound mind". Not to get carried away with self. Things like this always gives me a strange feeling. I came out from things like this.
