DSi XL Still Worth it in 2020? Heck yes!

DSi XL is still THE BEST way to play Nintendo DS games! Here's why! Never going back to playing DS games on the 3DS! So yes, it was totally worth the price to me. I wanted to experience a unit right out of the box.

Some don’t realize this but the DS, DSi and DSi XL have the same resolution (the same amount of pixels: 192x256). The 3DS line has MORE pixels than the DS line - higher resolution 240x800. When playing, images on the DS lite to the DSi XL there is no “stretching” (scaling) done. The DSi XL just has bigger pixels. The 3DS has to scale. Or you can play at the native resolution and aspect in the Native mode so it fits to a represented 192x256 pixels on the screen. As you see here though there is pixel pairing done on the 3DS too so you never actually get native 1:1 gameplay with DS games at all.

Changed the title. I paid for a new one (limited edition). That’s why it was so expensive but I wanted to experience an unboxing plus it works perfectly. It can be hard to asses used systems. Also, you all know I’m truly a bit OCD and needed a non grubby one lol

The GUARANTEED IPS screens on DSi XL are honestly deal-makers for sure. I love them, and I always knew that the DSi XL just flat out looked much better than the Lite or even 3DS when playing DS games. Happy to see your insights. Got a DSi XL a while back and even used the battery is just amazing and games look perfect. The colors really pop when playing those sprite-based 2D games too.

No joke. I bought a New 2DS XL (my first console of the 3DS family) about two weeks ago and I've been playing a lot with it. DS games however really bothered me what with the blurry image and black bars. So I decided to search for a DSi XL though I wasn't entirely convinced, I search through the Internet for a comparison of displays, specifically the pixels, because I'm really interested in that kind of stuff and I needed to know if the additional cost was worth it to have the bets experience possible for DS games. There are a few comparisons out there, but nothing like this video. It's just bizarre that in the spawn of time I needed to find a GOOD comparison, you happen to upload this video and it is the best thing I've ever seen, honest to God, every doubt and question I had you answered them fully, going so much in depth as to mention how the pixels work on 3DS machines or the fact that the New 2DS XL uses the same display as the 3DS due to cost saving measures. I have no doubt, if it were anyone else, they've overlooked this kind of stuff, but you really went all out. This truly is synchronicity. I'll be buying a DSi XL with zero doubts in my mind now.

Saw this video when it was initially uploaded, but I just now bought a DSi XL for a fairly good price off Facebook thanks to you! I’ve been playing DS games on 3DS with no issue, but after seconds of revisiting them on the DSi XL, my DS carts are never going back in a 3DS. I also never got any type of DSi thanks to being madly in love with the DS Lite and its GBA slot, but using the DSi XL in 2021 is still an absolute treat!

I remember when I was a kid during the 2000s, I had a Gameboy Advance, which was going outdated at the time, and my parents offered to get me a Nintendo DS, but I rejected it. Then every time we went out to a store or mall, my parents still offered a few more times to get me one, but I still rejected it. The reason I didn't want one is because I didn't know any games I would like would be on the Nintendo DS since I wasn't a fan of Mario or Nintendo's other popular franchises. A few years ago when I was in my senior year of high school, I found out many of the TV shows I watched as a kid had a game or two for the Nintendo DS. Now I refuse not having the Nintendo DS before it went discontinued.

I just bought an identical one second hand, for around £50. I look forward to the eBay experience of opening a device wrapped in dodgy newspaper and battered cardboard, secured with wrapping tape to the extreme that could keep a working internal combustion engine together.
The part about the screen technology and pixels were a really welcome piece, thank you for it!
