The DSiXL is especially underrated. It has two big IPS screens. With how much people love IPS screens in Gameboys and how sought after they are with the New 3ds XL, it surprises me how the DSiXL gets completely glossed over. It also plays DS games in their native resolution, which makes it the ultimate system for playing DS games in my opinion.

I was able to pick up a mint DSiLL for $30 from Japan and had it modded with TwilightMenu with about 10 minutes of work.

Picked up a damn near mint condition DSI LL for $70 with both of the stylus, super happy I did. The screens are lovely to play on, and the size is absolutely perfect.

Actually bought the same color DSi at a fair a few months ago for this reason and it's been great!

The DSi isn't really a disadvantage - there is(or used to be) downloadable software for the system that likely would have been a higher priority to consumers than playing last-gen games. It also has quadruple the RAM, a better battery, higher CPU clock speed, and a more universal charger, as well as an XL model, better design in some places(except the fingerprint-magnet shiny front). It can, once modded or used with a flashcart, also play GBA roms natively via GBA hardware left in the system for compatibility with OG DS games.

I remember when I got my New 3DS XL and tried my DS games on it, only to be disgusted by the image quality in DS mode. I thought for a moment about what I could do and suddenly remembered the DSi XL existed. Bought one, modded it immediately, and it's been amazing ever since. Not only can you run any retail DS game or DSiWare from the SD card and restore GBA backwards compatibility, you can also run homebrew, ROM hacks, and even do obscure stuff like hosting Pokémon distribution events. Don't sleep on the DSi. It's amazing!

The DSi also had _the_ best console security of all Nintendo handhelds. Surprising considering the 3DS came out later, but we've only cracked DSi last year iirc

Bought a DSi XL recently to dedicate soley to modding for DS games. I love that thing. I have my 3ds xls but o love having a dedicated DSi model. I always loved the feel of holding these, and that has not changed. I love all the old Professor Layton, Pokemon and Harvest Moon games!

The dsi and ds lite were really nice. I remember when my parents got me a dsi for doing well in school. Had so much fun with it

The buttons on the dsi have such a satisfying click to them too. They're my favorite out of all the ds systems.
