USA Reverse Culture Shocks Part 2 #shorts

Normal things in the USA 🇺🇸 that aren’t as common globally

These are some things I look at differently after living abroad and traveling to 6 different continents

And if you missed it check out my previous video about reverse culture shocks when I first came back to the United States!

So here they are 👇

Pharmaceutical ads - everyone who’s been to the US has probably seen these. It’s so interesting that drug companies can market their products direct to consumers

Clothes dryers - something I definitely took for granted now that I have to hang dry all my clothes

Small talk with strangers - I think in so many other countries it’s not too common to just start talking to random people unless there’s a need to. Whereas in the US people are super extroverted and will often talk to anyone about anything

Taxes not included in the price - I like that in other countries the price is the price and you aren’t guessing what the final total will be after tax is added

The amount options at grocery stores - things like entire aisles dedicated to cereal is actually crazy to people from other countries

Sugar consumption - there is so much sugar in the typical American diet compared to other countries. Obviously I know there are a lot of factors in this and people in the US can choose to eat healthier.

High student loan and medical debts - okay everyone knows this one. But still felt like I needed to include it. So many Americans go $1,000s in debt to get an education or pay a medical bills

What do you think about these?

drug advertising has always been something that feels dystopic

In some European countries it's illegal to advertise drugs. I'm okay with that.

I love stranger small talk. Sometimes it's the only adult conversation I get in a given week.

As an American I can confidently say the Drug Advertising is so strange to all of us. I haven’t and I’ve never met anybody who has asked their doctor about drug xyz from a commercial.

I don’t know why they freak out over tax not being included. It’s not like tax makes it double the original cost, it’s just a little extra. If you can afford the original item, you can afford the tax on said item. And anyway, most people don’t even pay with cash anymore, they pay with card or their phone. It’s not like you didn’t bring enough cash in your wallet because you didn’t know there’d be tax on it.

Drugs with a side effect list longer than a terms and conditions page.

So, if you're not supposed to talk to people that you already know, how do you meet NEW friends? You just don't? How depressing 😞 I'm so glad I live in the south where a stranger will pitch in and help you if you're in need.

As a Canadian, I find it so mind boggling and jarring to have prescription meds ADVERTISED to me every time I’m in the US. I literally don’t understand why this is a thing… you shouldn’t be going to your doctor requesting certain meds because the commercial was captivating lol

I don't have medical or student loan debt I worked to pay for community college and got a scholarship and my parents had a small college fund also. If you have medical debt and can't afford it there are programs to get it released based on your income. Stop spreading misinformation like that's the norm. You can also purchase food with or without increased sugar. You have ALL OPTIONS WITH FREEDOM.

Small talk with strangers is common outside of the US, as are student loans and debt. But you're kinda right about the food - many countries have banned certain toxic things that are still in use in the US.

Tell me about it my husband went to a university for law enforcement. He was older when he did and grieving for our daughter we just lost. They convinced him there was not age limits plenty employment available. Job after job interview...no job. They hired younger guys and military coming back home. Deferment after Deferment and the covid hold. It's been 15 years and they're still bugging us. With all the tax money they take I doubt it'd hurt to let it go, especially since the school was misleading and dishonest. So now we are going into retirement owing our jerk government money.
