In today's video, you learn the ideal golf swing. Also, you learn the left side vs. right side dominant which is best for you. The perfect golf swing setup, how to maintain a consistent grip for maximum power and control, the critical role of body rotation and side transfer, and tips for keeping your club on the right and left path throughout the swing.

You will probably be most comfortable swinging a golf club from the same side of the ball. As a right-handed hitter or golfer, you will stand to the left of the plate or ball with your left hand at the bottom of the bat or club. The opposite is true if you are a lefty.

Determining your dominant hand when first playing golf is important in helping to develop as a player. Neither hand has an advantage in the game both lefties and righties are successful. You will find much more success hitting the ball for distance and accuracy from your dominant side. Knowing your dominant hand is also essential when picking out the proper clubs.

Oftentimes, this dominant hand will be the same as the dominant hand used for playing golf. This is not always a perfect measure, though. Think about which side of the plate you swing a baseball bat from. You will probably be most comfortable swinging a golf club from the same side of the ball.

As a beginner, swinging the club might be awkward from both sides, but one side should feel smoother and more natural than the other. Get into a proper golf stance with your feet a little more than shoulder-width apart and the ball just slightly closer to your front foot. Take your backswing, then swing forward, connect with the ball, and follow through. After a few tries, it should be clear which side is dominant.

The best way to determine which hand is dominant when playing golf is to go out and practice swinging a club. Go to a driving range with a right and left-handed club and practice hitting the ball.

Therefore if you plan to go golfing and don’t know which way you swing a golf make sure you practice and try both ways to find out what is more comfortable for you. Once you find which feels the best for you left swing or right swing, you should make sure to stick with that hand for going.

Whether you're a seasoned golfer or just starting out, understanding your dominant side can make a huge difference in your game.

I have been watching Golf YouTube videos for 6 years or so and never have put a comment so this should say something. This is in my opinion the best golf swing video that is currently online. Thank you very much for helping me find my swing.

Chuck this is hands down one of your best. I had to drop rotary swing due to cost. But I love your teaching. Thank you for coming back and offering some YouTube content. I appreciate it.

Ok, Chuck. Former member here. I thought I was a right hand, throw the clubhead type swinger 😮. Made sense to me, being right handed.I have struggled for years with consistent contact. Today, I watched this video before my 8 AM round. After 6 holes of slicing, topping, and 120 yard drives, I remembered your video. Very relaxed, not much effort, easy swing. Right hand barely on the club. This resulted in a birdie on 7, a bogey on 8, and a par on 9. I felt like I could control the club without trying to. I'll be rewatching that video, you better betcha... turns out, I think I'm a puller, not a thrower. Thanks, Chuck.

Chuck this video is so incredibly valuable & essential for my gilf swing. I am a totally Right side dominate person (throwing arm being the right & my left trail arm being my pretty weak & uncoordinated) ie. I'm a Right side dominate person that plays Lefthanded)
I started out as a young kid using my dominant Right side as my lead side..being Lefthanded). My golf was very powerful & natural during this time. BUT i have spent the last 30yrs totally confused by the predominantly Trail arm 'throwing' swing Teachers & videos. This Trail side throwing action is totally foreign & weak for me yet ive been consistently told by many that you don't pull with the Front lead side in the golf swing!!!..this has caused me tremendous confusion in my golf swing over many years.
This video of yours today is an absolute Godsend for me & i thank you dearly for it.
The way you have identified & explained the differences of both swings & also a 'combo of both' has truely clarified my confusion of using a Trail sided throwing action when that is totally foreign & unnatural to me.
Many many thanks for the quality & knowledge that you provide here as it is 1st class. 17:29

Chuck, I’ve been a fan of yours for years and you continue to provide excellent instructional golf videos. I basically learned my golf swing as a subscriber to your site and developed a left side dominate swing as a result. “Pull vs push” makes so much sense to me so I continue to use the left side dominate swing type and this video confirms my belief it’s best for me. Thank you!

Thank you for explaining this. Now I realize why some instructors explain the swing differently. Can't wait to get out and check out my swing. As I watched your video, Jon Rahm was on TV, so I was able to look up and watch his swing. What a great coincidence for me.

Chuck—this was one of the most illuminating vids that I have seen in a long, long while. It really helped put some pieces of the puzzle in place. I would really love it if you could further expand on swing elements that fit (or don’t fit) in each type of swing. Thanks so much for your unique and thoughtful perspective.

This was really eye-opening to me! I am normally left handed, but play golf "regular". Friends keep saying to me: You're a lefty, you have to play on the other side. But to me, it feels natural and I have a good lenght in my shots. It's a bit like hitting a backhand in tennis. Now, I finally know why and am more confident, that I am not "on the wrong track". Really appreciate it, Chuck, thanks a lot!

I was working on a swing much like the lead side swing. Passive arms. I pulled a lot of shots.
The Right side throw produced more distance and a easy draw. Also could work the ball better.
I’ll take the throw to the course today.

This is awesome! I’m left handed dominant but golf right handed and I think that’s why I have a lead side dominant swing. Great

Was chopping some road with a mattock the other day and noticed my left arm wanted to lock at the elbow for powerand accurate strikes. Then went out and crushed my 7 iron the same way. Revelation for me

This is a fantastic instructional video about a topic not regularly discussed. The common analogy is skipping a rock with your trail arm, but for those that are left handed, this is a foreign movement that would lead to a fabricated and forced body motion.

Because I shoot right, but am lead arm dominant, I love the analogy of throwing a frisbee. That helped developed a natural hip motion, and really understand how to release the club with my left hand alone. In combination with understanding parametric acceleration, the downward force propelling my shoulder upwards, my striking has drastically improved

Excellent. Extremely helpful. Amazing that this is the first time I have had this explained. Shines a light on some of my struggles trying to do some of both but being unaware of the incompatibility of parts of the swing.

Hi, I broke my neck twice :) I can shoot 70's with both methods and i struggle stick with one simply because i have always use right side before. I find that not having the right hand involved can help it fold and keep the elbows closer together and the club in front of your chest better and thus easier to flatten path down.

sorry for my english, i'm french. You should add after this excellent vid, that one very important thing to catch is also to know witch eye is dominating. It could help many people to stop struggling, above all at putting. Thanks .

What an outstanding/exceptional presentation. Your explanation took the confused mystery out and put everything in proper perspective of what swing was best for me based on my athletic experience. It gave me a high level of understanding and confidence to focus on my practice and playing to do the right thing right. Thank you for sharing your research, knowledge and experience with us.

Very good interpretation of the trail and lead side dominant swings. This is something I myself have been experimenting with recently. Just switched back to the lead side because it seems much more consistent and accurate as well as less strenuous. I tend to swing really quick though, so it has been a chore at times to be patient as you have stated we should be, working with the lead side. I appreciate the explanation of going to the range and practicing with right and left arm to see which feels more normal. That I will use because I have not really heard it put that way. Again, thanks for the great instruction and I will try this soon with hopes of discovering the true normalcy of my swing...

One of the best demonstrations. I use both methods, short irons I use right side which produces very straight shots, For the driver I use lead side just feels more comfortable and accurate. Weird ha
