Don't peel your carpet back when painting or staining baseboards or casings next to it. There's a better way.

When the paint has dried, push DOWN on the tape it to break the bond between the paint and tape, then pull up and out. If you pull straight up and there isn't a really good bond between the paint and the baseboard, the paint can peel off with the tape.

Decided to paint my baseboards brown to set off the lime green carpet. I live in a pistachio.

Thanks for the advice. I have half carpet and half tile baseboards to paint. I was procrastinating, but this tip makes me confident I can paint with no paint blobs on the carpet. Thanks again.

Nice tip I would double the tape to make a wider spread from the wall and use a plastic runner/drop cloth too, especially in large areas or any concern of mess. Keep sharing=caring. Blessings

I was putting blue tape down but knew there was a better way than what I was doing. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this tip! I was really worried about how I could get this painting done without painting all the tips of the carpet.

I tried this and used the 3m no residue tape on the carpet and regular blue tape on the wall. Used the 5in one tool. Came out perfect. Thanks for this video.

Very helpful, have long pile carpet and this seems to have solved the issue with painting the architrave

We had to lay down new carpet before painting the baseboards, so it's new and tall, the other suggestions like holding it down with metal tools doesn't work. Will give this a shot, thank you

2 things. Break the seal between the tape and the baseboard/new paint by pushing down on it again before removing.
Also secondly, use a poly/plastic based tape so it doesn't rip or break during application in places you can't see!

there used to be plastic carpet shields you could put down, paint, and remove--I had 3 and now I can't find them--very useful about
30 in long--someone should start making them again

Seems like a good tip to me. My carpet is a little more shaggy so it will be a bit trickier but I think it will be better than trying to paint it all free hand.
