It's just cultural differences...South Africans embrace the term ...African Americans do not...we are not them...they are not

I'm South African and in South Africa we have group of people known as coloured. If African Americans don't want to accept her heritage it's their problem. They can stop buying her music if they have problem with who she is. Black history and blackness didn't start in America

Kudos to Tyla. Proud of this gorgeous coloured beauty. Don't let these people bully you. The world does not revolve around these ignorant folks.

If you are not from South Africa SHUT UP. We have Blacks, Whites, Indians, Asians and Coloureds. We Coloureds are proud to be called Coloureds. We are a race apart. Those ignorant people around the world, we have taken a deragatory apartheid term and made it are own. Leave us and our racial history alone. JB Vermeulen - Dutch surname which means " Of the Mill " In plain English : White Dutch Ancestors who who made flour in Netherland. My ancestor married a Khoi woman when he came here.

Or Americans need to accept the world doesn't revolve around their world view. Please read about Apartheid and how the segregations of the cultures made a whole group of people with their own culture etc which is coloured its defined as its own race

I actually like the term colored… when I did 23&me ancestry I am not 100% black so for awhile I honestly didn’t know what to identify as. Tyla saying she’s colored doesn’t put her in a box. So I don’t think people should be mad. She’s a variety, unique.

I think the Yankis have to stop their exceptionalism and accept different social contexts and different perspectives on the same thing. For her, the word Coloured has a meaning of identity, because her social context, and she is mixed race. Instead of talking nonsense about her, why people just don't try to understand why she identifies as Coloured? Learn a little about the history of South Africa. I know that because US it's the epicenter of capitalism and for decades dictating what the world should think and do, it ended up creating this superiority complex that cannot understand other perspectives on the world.

Americans need to sit down somewhere and start listening to the rest of the world and how they do things.

As an African British woman, I can tell you that coloured is inappropriate, but the African in me KNOWS and identifies there's a group of people referred to as "coloured".. It has nothing to do with it being derogatory but it's just factual... Infact, my best friend has a black mum and white dad, and she identifies with the "coloured" community when she's in Africa.

Black brown Red Colors "Colored".... where is this a bad word? America? In South Africa and here in Trinidad, it isn't a bad word. People looking for battles instead of trying to understand and respect people's words

This is one of those times where a word means different things to different cultures. In America it’s a very triggering term but she’s not from America. In South Africa it’s something totally different. Not sure what’s hard to understand, if you feel a way you’re probably not from where she’s from & we can’t expect ppl to just switch up terms they’ve been using all their lives.

Tyla can call herself what ever the hell she wants. Just as everyone else does. Look a Raven Simon in the interview with Oprah.
People should not call other people they don’t know any word or name. But you have the right to call yourself what ever you want. Tyla keep making and singing those great songs. Your career is far from over. It’s just beginning girl. Your amazing ❤.
