Is Tyla playing up to being black in order to get support from the black community?

As a black South African it's funny that this is even a discussion. It's not that deep, she's coloured.

This Tyla loves complicating things. She should have just said my father my mother is

Simply put, in America, everything operates through the prism of race along color lines. The 1 drop rule exists and persists throughout American society today & in America, Tyla despite being of mixed continental indigeneity, would be considered black.
In South Africa, multi-generational "mixed" people have their own classification. It's called "coloUred."
Now apply that to Chris Brown.
In America, Chris Brown is "black." Genetically, he's of mixed African, American and European generational mixed.
In South Africa, Chris Brown would be considered "coloured."
Americans need to accept that the world does not revolve around them.

She’s not black, so I don’t see why people are mad at her. She is Indian more than black and does not want to associate with black America, unless it’s featuring hip hop artist on her come up or appropriating black culture. She should cater to her target audience “coloured “

😂 Chris Brown is supporting her because he said the same thing about himself. I agree with Tyla initial statement. She’s not black. Us black people need to stop claiming everyone. We not doing that one drop rule no more. They can call themselves whatever they want. We just need to stop calling everyone that has a black relative black. No n word passes and stop with the damn cookout invites. Let people eat their unseasoned food in peace.

Africans aren’t black they are strictly tribal and she said nothing wrong, some of us really believe Africans are our people😂

I wonder how as black are going to celebrate each other across the diaspora if we dont try to learn each other history we all fall subject to colonialism and as a result we view race differently.to be considered black in SA you have to be 100%black but we as South Africans do go around questioning black American's blackness because we all know not all BAmericans are 100% black..we as South Africans understand that race is not just black and white but there is a grey area most plp don't want to admit 🤦🏾‍♀️we are all victims of the white man and we question someones blackness and connection to blackness when we dont agree on their takes🙄

it is SOOOO arrogant for americans to think that the world views race the same way they do. mixed people in africa - i mean in black africa - are considered white. south africa is somewhat unique with it's colored classification. in general your race very much depends on where you live.

Its just that in America black people are multi cultural are mixed and we do not say we are colored . She’s in America trying to make it here in America that word no longer exist in our capillary for a reason that’s why it’s important. Also, she got a Grammy. Her song was a hit, but there were many other songs that gain more radio time and acknowledgment then hers, those African artist Did not win the Grammy simply because they don’t claim colored or mixed. I believe she got it because she is mixed.

I think Chris browns right, it ain't nobody's business. As someone who's mixed with asian, white & a few things. Everybody needs to put race aside & realise we're all the same race the human race, just some of us look different & speak different but that don't change the fact we're all humans. Not 1 ethnicity is better than another, everybody needs to get that through their head & start realising this

I think Americans see race differently than other countries...and it confuses other black people from different regions. In south africa she's not black she is coloured. But when you say that in America they get mad??

Blacks called themselves colored too in the early 1900’s to formerly enslaved – Black Americans shifted from inherited terms of racial categorization to naming themselves. “Colored” was the dominant term through the mid to late 19th century, but freedmen adopted the term for themselves as a marker of race pride. People not only don’t know their history, but they also don’t consider the inception of the NAACP. National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (1909) that sprang up around the turn of the century. They only bring up Jim Crow because they are woefully ignorant

This is an American media thing. (Making mixed raced people choose a side. They are both/all!) I don’t want ppl from other countries visiting America to think the citizens are like this, we’re very friendly.
