Zippo 4-in-1 Woodsman: Light-use Camping Axe and Saw Combo-Tool

Last year at Shot Show I saw this tool and I was anxious to get my hands on it for review. Any tool that combines more than 1 outdoor item gets my attention, especially if the combo WORKS. While I don't see myself using the tent stake puller a ton, and the mallet could be strengthened up, I do think the axe and saw are pretty solid items. Survival item? Probably not. Good for working on your skills out in the woods or for family camping? I'd say yes. Check it out and tell us what you think.

Camping and hiking tools are supposed to be durable survival tools. Zippo's idea of camping must include air conditioned trailers. I never use plastic tent stakes because they almost always snap after only a few uses; I usually replace them with metal ones.
All in all it seems like a good idea that just isn't being done properly.

Good entry level multi-purpose tool for camping or the car. Thanks for the review ;)-

i really like the concept of making a tool with multiple uses but every survival multi tool i have seen is a novelty item or just isnt big enough to be useful im a firm believer of carrying the extra weight of multiple proper tools rather than a few into one that either doesnt function or breaks

Fantastic video! I went and got one after seeing this video and used it last year backpacking last summer and found it a very useful light tool. The hatchet and bow saw are fantastic but the tent stake puller and pommel are kind of a waist. All and all thumbs up...

like the video, but  it too gadget. Good for vehicle or bush plane gear where space and weight are limited.

No thanks, I will pass. Light use translates to easily breakable in my opinion.

The axe to the hammer/pommel section is full tang (metal hammer)

Definitely for light use. Broke the handle right off on the bottom of mine on my first camping trip. Wish I could load the pictures on here so you all can see just how cheaply made this thing is. Great idea. Terrible quality. Don't waste your money. If it's a serious multi tool you're looking for, look elsewhere. Very disappointed.

yea...cool tool, to keep in the RV! At 2 lbs it's not going on my pack. Good review, you made it better, check that, more useful, that it really is. Kudos for finding the positive. As you said....good for the SUV to go camping....but I'll still to dedicated tools for each....multi-tool...not so much.

I like it. Now for someone who seen this, it wouldn't be hard to modify an axe to attach a saw blade, you would probably have to use bolts though. This will be a good mod on my double bit. Drill a hole through the utility side bit, and a hole at the right length for the saw blade in the hickory handle. Also wrap the utility side bit with para cord or Wilson wrap for handle of saw. Damn, I think I just made another project for myself....

Seems cheap. This looks best for the family camper. Do you agree??

Hello i have been watching you for just a little bit and i seen about the zippo axe and saw combos. I have to say yea it did work but with you i like to see zippo make it moreout of some lite metal that can handle a little more work challenge. And it seaems like thay are going to cheepest way just mack money but there trying to get in the game if thay will make it better with some better metal that's when I'll thank about buying one but in till then I'll never touch that junk and it looks like it might last maybe five years or less.

The fastest way to dull an axe is to chop concrete block. The next is chopping into dirt. Some of the chopping demonstration was too close to chopping dirt. Chopping on a log or pile of branches is a far safer way of protecting the edge of the axe.

Kevin, a new subscriber and another NH guy here. A great review that provoked some considerations. I didn't like the fact that you couldn't really use the axe two-handed. From my Boy Scout days, I fell in love with the 3/4 Hudson Bay axe, and as an axemanship instructor in Scout camp, could light a match with one blow. But I really like the fact that the Zippo converts to what seems to be a pretty decent buck saw. The stake puller and pounder are pretty useless IMO. In the White Mountains, with all the underbrush if you boondock, I prefer hammock (Hennesey) camping and I carry a set of titanium stakes that are no problem getting in and out of the ground. My advice to Zippo would be to beef up the axe/saw combination, keep that very functional sheath, and make the haft useful for two-handed chopping.

The tent stake puller and the mallet ( if you could even call it that) don't seem like they would be used often. Metal pummel would be better.

Another NH viewer here from the White Mountain region. Awesome little tool, definitely something I'm gonna have to pick up before I start camping again this summer. Awesome video.

In this category I go with Fiskars all day long, along with a silky saw or the laplander.
