Writer-director Greta Gerwig (Lady Bird) has crafted a Little Women that draws on both the classic novel and the writings of Louisa May Alcott, and unfolds as the author’s alter ego, Jo March, reflects back and forth on her fictional life. In Gerwig’s take, the beloved story of the March sisters – four young women each determined to live life on her own terms -- is both timeless and timely. Portraying Jo, Meg, Amy, and Beth March, the film stars Saoirse Ronan, Emma Watson, Florence Pugh, Eliza Scanlen, with Timothée Chalamet as their neighbor Laurie, Laura Dern as Marmee, and Meryl Streep as Aunt March.

"You'll need to marry well."
"But you're not married, Aunt March."
"Well that's because I'm rich."😂

Meryl Streep is perfect as aunt march! I wasn’t sure about her when she was first cast but YES, all of the yes!

I think that when Aunt March leaves her house to Jo in the end, this shows that she accepts her niece's life choice after all, and that she gives her the house as a starting point for an independent life. She tells her what society expects of her, but that does not necessarily mean she believes it personally. It's also got to be pointed out that Aunt March's first name is Josephine and that Jo has probably been named after her.

I really hope that this movie doesn't present Aunt March as a miserable old maid because if I remember correctly she was widowed in the original novel.

Only Meryl Streep could speak in such funny but yet sincere way about being married in that times....with an underlying irony....
