Benefits for carers who are above State Pension age

If you are above State Pension age and are a carer, there are a a number of benefits that you might be able to claim to help you.

This is great because most carer’s find that it is easier to continue their caring role if they get some support. There are some key benefits that you may be entitled to as a carer above the State Pension age but knowing which benefits you qualify for can be difficult.

In my video I mentioned some of the benefits that the person you care for must already receive in order to qualify for the Council Tax Reduction. Below is the full list:

· Personal Independence Payment – the daily living component
· Disability Living Allowance - the middle or highest care rate
· Attendance Allowance
· Constant Attendance Allowance at or above the normal maximum rate with an Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
· Constant Attendance Allowance at the basic (full day) rate with a War Disablement Pension
· Armed Forces Independence Payment
· Child Disability Payment - the middle or highest care rate

I was caring for both my husband and child (40 years and 50+ and still). But could only claim for one. I've saved the country thousands.

5 years ago I put in for carers allowance for my husband who had brain tumour was told by helpline that could not get it as we were married we got nothing I was getting my state pension at the time my husband is dead now

I’m a carer but can’t get carers allowance because I get the basic pension, they call it overlapping benefits. Carers are nothing but slaves working and not being paid. It saves the government billions of pounds than if they had to pay carers for the work they do
