There are many benefits for carer’s who are below state pension age.

This is great because most carer’s find that it is easier to continue their caring role if they get some support. There are some key benefits that you may be entitled to as a carer if you haven’t yet reached state pension age, but knowing which benefits you qualify for can be difficult.

In my video I mentioned some of the benefits that the person you care for must already receive in order to receive Carer’s Allowance. Below is the full list:

· Personal Independence Payment – the daily living component
· Disability Living Allowance - the middle or highest care rate
· Attendance Allowance
· Constant Attendance Allowance at or above the normal maximum rate with an Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit
· Constant Attendance Allowance at the basic (full day) rate with a War Disablement Pension
· Armed Forces Independence Payment
· Child Disability Payment - the middle or highest care rate

There are so many great resources around with information about each benefit that you might be entitled to. So below, I have listed a few of these resources

£67.00 a week for 35 hours looking after someone. No thank you! What an absolute insult, especially since people who don't work get £74.00 a week. Just shows how much the government appreciate the tens of thousands of carers in the country.

We live in Scotland if a person claims carers allowance the amount they can earn is limited to £139 per week you also have to commit to 35 hours per week caring often involves day and night time care for this you will receive £76.75 2023/2024. Most people can’t go out to work because the person being cared for needs help 24/7. This limits the carers funds to £76.75 for 35 hours work which = a payment of £2.19 per hour well bellow the minimum wage???? Yet the average cost of living in a Care home in Scotland for nursing care is £888.50 plus residential care £762.62 total charge £1, 651.12. = a payment of £ 68.80 over 24 hours. Then when the carer retires they lose the carers allowance “ why?” Because the DWP say you can’t claim 2 benefit’s you will rightly remind them that you are only claiming your State Pension that’s when most will discover that the State Pension is now classed as a benefit. I think it’s about time that carers were valued and respected by paying them at least the minimum wage. This would save our Local Council’s a fortune in Care Home fees.

My son is 20yrs old, I'm his carerer he was at college before pandemic and was afraid to apply for another course because he though he had to go outside to college, his mental health and anxiety was bad during that time, but DWP cut me down to £146 a month because I'm a over 25 single adult, but because i receive carers every week they are taking more than the 4 weekly payments of my universal credit, how can that be justified, my 20 yr old Male cousin gets double the money i receive and ive to run a house pay Bill's, they expect me to pay nearly £40 per month to council tax it will be 2yrs in September I've basically lived of nothing... is there anyone who could help me please...
