Cold Cases Solved In 2023

It’s no secret that in the last few years there has been an explosion in the number of cold cases that have been solved both across the United States and around the world. A lot of this can be attributed to advancements in DNA technology — particularly in techniques like forensic genetic genealogy, which in 2018 famously led to the arrest of the notorious Golden State Killer. However, many times it’s simply due to good old fashioned police work and the dedication of countless law enforcement personnel, families of victims, and members of the public who never stopped searching for answers.

Whatever the reason, if you ask us there’s nothing more satisfying or fascinating than when a cold case like this is finally solved. That’s why today, as we approach the tail end of 2023, we thought it would be interesting to look back and cover a few of the crimes that were solved this year.

Just a heads up, we’ve opted to focus more on lesser known cases in this video. While stories like the arrest of the Long Island Serial Killer certainly made massive headlines in 2023, and for good reason, we wanted to shine a spotlight on some of the cases that you might not have come across. If you’d like us to dig into some of these more well-known stories, let us know in the comments below, and we can absolutely do that in a future video though. With that out of the way, here are 3 Cold Cases That Were Solved In 2023.

Any SA or violent crime against a child should not have a statute of limitations.

I'd actually like to hear more about lesser known cases because they should also deserve to be spoken about, to remember the victims and how they managed to solve these cases. Especially since a lot of other channels cover the better known cases over and over again. These smaller cases deserve just as much attention

I have a vivid memory of my mother telling me, "Never accept a ride from anyone except for me or your father, not even the preacher." So, when I was about 5 years old I was walking home from the bus stop while we were living in Japan, and our pastor came by and asked me if I wanted a ride. I told him verbatim what my mother had said, and kept walking. This was in the early 1960s and I don't know if there was any reason why I should be worried about our pastor, but my mother praised me for doing as I'd been told.

I like hearing these solved little known cold cases. I agree with previous comments that as crime watchers, we see repeats of the same cases. I would also like to say that it is nice to see the face behind that soft, gentle voice. I am getting tired of hearing voices that obviously do not come from a real, live human being!

I appreciate your covering lesser known cases, like Vickie Lynn Belk, as I was at school with her, in Alexandria, Virginia. Her mother worked with me, after I left home at 15, and was extremely kind to me. She was tough, but fair. It helped me to get back on track, and helped me to see my parents as two parents who were still grieving.
May all the victims rest in peace.

Nothing makes me happier than seeing cold cases being solved and justice being served or at least answer of the who to the victims families. Thank you for all the work you both do. Happy New Year 🎆

I know you get comments all the time about your narrative skills - I just want to add to them. I enjoy well researched, and well told, stories, however, I do find a lot of the ones available are grating. So thank you for your care for the victims, your meticulous research, and your straightforward narration.

Wait, so Taylor kills a guy during a robbery and is found not guilty, but is convicted for possessing the gun that he killed the guy with? That’s just bizarre, I’m really curious to know exactly how that happened.
