This is one of the best horror shorts I've ever seen. Everything, from the design of the characters to the plot is just PERFECT. Mr Bobo looks terryfing. That and uncle saying " he feels like he has a mind of his own" makes you to expect this to be a simple cursed toy—based story, but ohan does it turn out to be much scarier.
Another thing I would like to point out is that there are moments where you expect to be a jumpscare, but they just aren't there. Infact, how does a simple horror story work:
First you get a set up that gets more and more uneasy, then it culminates into a jumpscare that scares you for a second or two, but what it also does is it brings away ( either partially or fully) the uneasy feeling you had while watching.
In this case, however, the uneasyness doesn't go away. It stays with you for a while after watching. And that, in my opinion, is a mark of a true horror masterpiece.
P.S. Oh wow, I didn't expect this comment to turn into an essay on how horror films work. Badically, what I wanted to say is " great video, dude. Very spooky"

5:45 I love how the screen says CAM 6, implying there are probably other cameras that he hasn’t found

There was no way this wouldn't have ended the same way, regardless of Oliver's actions.
They didn’t just want to watch a boy innocently sleep.

I'll be real, I think the scariest thing about this whole short might just be the aunt. Im serious. It's just so disturbing how she's only seen once in the whole short and then never again. Plus, the fact the narrator mentions her working in the basement with Charles makes it extremely clear by the end, that she was completely involved with the Mr. Bobo thing. Chilling

I find it creepy how the narration stopped after Oliver entered the house. It leans away from the whole 80s kid show aesthetic and into something creepier.

The way, he said, “Uncle Charles” before he wound up in the basement, he sounded so scared and confused, made it seem like this wasn’t just based on something from real life, but that it’s really happening

The way the aunt stood in the doorway looming over the boy with her eyes staring him down...

i think my favourite part about this short is the design of Mr. Bobo, he looks so odd and other wordly despite also looking like somthing that would have 100% been allowed to be sold back in the day lmao.

Uncle couldn't break the cycle of abuse apparently.

5:33 I thought the camera was a cyborg eye and he was about to spring up like the Terminator

Idk why but this is somehow far better than other horror shorts I’ve seen. All the other ones are like “ooh Mr bobo grows a big mouth with sharp teeth But this is more grounded which makes it scarier somehow

The fact that this gem hasn’t broken 1k views is crazy. You deserve a million.

I like how the dialogue is framed in a way to give several different impressions on how things could have gone, at least when I watched it.

The main case for me is the idea that the two weren't actually Oliver's aunt and uncle. The narrator notes how Oliver seems to know where he's going (which gave me a sense of unease), how he hadn't seen his aunt and uncle for years and didn't know if they'd recognize him, and how the uncle only calls "Auntie Pat" by her name after Oliver already called her that name.

I love how that was framed, making the actual reveal catch me even more off guard. Great work :)

When the uncle said him and Oliver's dad use to play with Mr Bobo as kids, it made me realize there could be a generational trauma pattern going on.

Like the reason the uncle is doing this could be because him and his brother were also put through the same "Punishments" as Oliver. If they misbehaved or did something wrong, like "hurt" Mr Bobo, they'd be locked in the basement and monitored through the camera until they learn how to act properly.

Which is terrifying and adds a lot of extra layer to this whole situation

Really nice work.

I assume “The Boy and the Camera” played some inspiration? It definitely has that kind of feel to it and utilizes similar elements.

British stop-motion children’s content like this will always be scary. You took that and somehow made it more uneasy and dark. Crazy you don’t have more people watching this.

That was significantly scarier than I thought it was going to be. Super natural toys are spoopy ... This is actually disturbing and spine chilling.

the moment the narrator (who was usually directly talking to the audience) was muffled behind the door, my eyes actually widened
