Shrilla Banerjee and Valeria Paradies were invited to talk about a subject that was very often raised during EuroPCR 2023: how to save both the patient and the myocardium in case of cardiogenic shock?
As there is currently little evidence of the benefits of mechanical circulatory assistance, which is a barrier to the use of such devices, not all centres are equipped with them, and this is a very important factor to take into account when establishing a shock network.
Standardizing the procedure, tackling the learning curve in all centres, and selecting patients from the ambulance to optimise their management are the objectives being pursued to overcome this problem.
