I’ll give the movie this, I do like that they don’t force the divorced couple to get back together in the end like most movies at the time would’ve done. As someone who grew up in a split household this movie really handled that situation good and especially the final message at the end given by Mrs. Doubtfire really hits home for anyone who had a similar upbringing.

Robin Williams’s ability to shine in any role and make people feel good. He was one of the best parts of my childhood, and I’ll always miss him. RIP

Daniel could have easily avoided the situation at the restaurant, if he had called Miranda the night before her birthday, pretended to be Mrs Doubtfire and claim that she had broken her hip or something, and therefore couldn't make it to the dinner.
