Back in October of 2020, I spent a little over a week on a once-in-a-lifetime road trip through Kosovo with my good friend Erjan Guxha. I spent two of those days in the national capital, Pristina. This city lies on a plain near the Goljak Mountains, and has a rich history that has roots dating back to the ancient Vinča culture.

The city, like most of Kosovo, has moved on from the dark days of the Kosovo War in the 1990s, and rebuilt itself stronger than ever. That said, Pristina still is often overlooked by travelers visiting the Balkans in favor of other cities in the region like Belgrade, Dubrovnik, Split, Skopje, and Sofia. But Pristina is more than worthy of a visit, and I’ll show you why in this video.

Whether you’re visiting the gorgeous Mirusha Waterfalls and Gadime Caves just outside of town, dining on delicious local fare at Molla Egër Agroturizëm, or checking out the unique architecture of the National Library of Kosovo, there’s something for everyone in this city.

Erjan and I explored sites within the city, like Cathedral of Saint Mother Teresa and the Magic Ice Cheese Factory. We also ventured outside the city limits to the ancient city of Ulpiana, Bear Sanctuary Pristina, and Gračanica Monastery.

And, of course, we couldn’t visit Pristina without trying some delicious qebapa and qofte! But instead of me telling you about what a fantastic travel destination Pristina is, let me show you…

Where have you been?

Fascinating. Glad peace reigns there now. Beautiful. The infrastructure looks great. Loved the Wild Apple. Agree completely with your love of lamb meat! Great open market. That art work looks magnificent. Cathedral beautiful. I think the Library is unique and and worthy of viewing (I was an academic librarian).

Well it took me 3 days to finish watching this video, not because of it's length but because I was busy and could not really concentrate on it. Anyhow, I just finished and I have to admit that I don't know much about Kosovo, but I see that there is a lot of history there. One city, Pristina, and so many interesting things that I have learned. David, you are a brave man to go into the cave. I was on pins and needles because I am very claustrophobic and I wouldn't dare go into one. The food with the emphasis on milk and cheese was very unique although, I may be wrong, but the milk and the cheese are to cut the gameyness of the meat. My fellow Trinis will recognize the flat bread made in the oven: looks like our oven-baked bake. The city itself is beautiful and the hotel where David stayed is like living in luxury.
The bear sanctuary is huge and those poor bears looked so calm. The lazy hazy dazy days of bear life. Oh well!!. Then going back to the cheese factory was a treat to see how they made the cheese, although the sound cut off and couldn't hear what was said. So finally I am done and it was very interesting and informative. Another one well done. 🙏🕊️🇹🇹🇨🇦

In Georgia, corn bread is hugely eaten, too. After travelling Turkey where the variety of cuisine is lacking, Kosovo looks a little interesting to visit.
