Here’s a fun fact! I used to mod and repair iPods while in high school! Here are some of the parts you could easily swap on these vintage devices.

In high school in 2004-05 I was ripping friends iPods, extracting the encoded song files, and got the artist/title/track all put back with some app. By college I had 7k songs in my pocket

Still use my iPod Mini almost daily, upgrade to an SSD 256GB, new battery, and RockBox it. Huge Mini fan.

Back in the day when I was still in school I suggested that for an after school club there would be a tech repair club where anyone could come in get their devices fixed or modded and be happy. All for completely free! I would mostly fix students laptops and ipads. I genuinely felt proud of myself for that. It wasn't until 2012 when people found out about different back cases for ipods and they would beg me to customise their ipod. I didn't want to mod their ipods at first but eventually they would start paying me to mod them for me. And I remember one instance where it was their father's birthday and they wanted an engraved ipod with "happy birthday dad" on the back. It was those days that made everyday feel better that the previous days.

I would fix people’s broken glass on iPhone 3G. Parts cost me $7 and id charge $50-75. Apple was charging people $150-200 and sending their phone away so I made enough money to support myself for almost a year. It was a great experience!

I used to mod controllers. Change buttons and shells. Loved pimping up old gameboys. Still got my original gameboy color. Replaced the old screen for an led screen.
Loved it so much

Why dont we just make fully functional razpi based mp3/4s with non apple aluminum housing? Like, eventually og apple chassis’ will be impossible to even get our hands on, so why not just start making fully off brand kits?? 😅 it would be much cheaper long term too

I think its really cool you did this for your wife! Im thinking about buying a couple of iPods for my 2 nieces, for when they go to high school. Im sure they'll be glued to a cellphone when they get older. So the iPods might help!
