5:42 PRO TIP - Dont use the windows store version if iTunes, its prone to issues especially with iPods. Use the exe straight from apples website

For a touch of class, use clear cases and paint the inside with a gloss color of your choice. The result looks similar to a deep clear coat finish.

Really like this upgrade, especially the haptics, being a subtle but classy change.

One side effect of the USB-C change and bulkier backplate is that the iPod won't be compatible with any of the original peripherals and speakers that these used to plug into. I'd love to see you do an upgrade to an old iPod stereo setup.

LTT being behind the segue in someone else's video is absolutely mind blowing. 👀👀

Get some solder paste, lol. It is slightly sticky for the component until the hot air can start to melt the solder which heats faster because its not stuck to the pad already... paste is a game changer and very easy to use. If you learn to apply the right quantity of paste for the pad and pin size then you can even be sloppy with application and most the time it will perfectly align with the pads when the paste flows.

Tip for the hot glue: if you want a really good bond: cut of a small amount of hot glue, place it where you want to melt it and use your hot air station to melt it (medium temp, low airflow). You bonding will be amazing and it saves you on waiting for it get hot…

Wish I had the skill to add Bluetooth and usb-c charging but with my luck I’d have my iPod classic sitting around for weeks waiting for replacement parts. Amazing work!

Normally I like transparent technology, I think it's looked really good in your past projects. However, I just don't like the look here. Maybe it's because I just think the original color/material design of the iPod is so good and "premium looking".

Dude! This is something we were really missing! Just the experience of having your favorite 150 songs in your pocket was incredible! I miss having an isolated music device completely separate from my phone.

just fyi, place some tape on the SD card. The spring mechanism in the reader does not actually hold the card, and a sudden drop can dislodge the card from the reader.

You can also probably wire the bluetooth mod to the hold switch, just put the positive terminal through it (but I am unsure if that woiuld not cause a surge of 5V into the rest of the system, probably will need a diode)

In every meaningful metric, this hackPod is definitely an upgrade. *"Here comes the big, hairy but"* BUTT, one of my favorite aspects of my old iPod was the sound of that mechanical hard drive. Something about that winding-down sound was incredibly satisfying.

Watching this video really hits home that Canada has produced some of the best tech/self build-related YouTubers. We've got Zac Builds, Drew Builds, LTT, Hacksmith etc. We're so lucky! 🇨🇦

Keep up the awesome work! 👍

When I was much younger, I wanted this iPod since I always liked the form factor. Now I really want THIS one.

THANK YOU! Never heard of Elite Obsolete Electronics, but now, after years of it gathering dust (in its original box) my iPod Mini 2G can finally get a new click wheel! I accidentally damaged the ribbon cable when I modded the screen to have a red background and replaced the hdd back in like 2009 or something like that xD

Yeah, I enjoy my music via walkmen Cassette. No interruptions, all my favorite mixes on tape. It's just fun to do and tangible. It's amazing how not having notifications and phone calls interrupt your music really helps you focus.

24:20 i've never owned an iPod, and when I heard about that battery life I realized it's better than any device that I've ever had.
