EPIC MOMENT: RYUUSEI MAKE VIDEO ABOUT CALAMITY MOD!

I like the concept of self damaging weapons, but I think it needs to be less risky and more rewarding

0:47 "I can't pay rent, but if you've got any dead relative you want me to try and... What? You don't?"

This little piece of dialogue kind of hints towards the lore of our character, which is something I really want to see. It's probably non-canon but I really like the idea of our character not being entirely human (such as us being an avatar for Xeroc, or even the world of Terraria itself)

in game it is indeed a bit bad atm. buff the weapons and nerf the expert mode damage

however lore-wise, this is surprisingly genius. see, whenever someone uses the term "dark magic" in fiction, it either only refers to the "bad guys", or is needlessly edgy. its usually a meaningless term

this trend in weapons actually reveals a lot about what calamitas' brand of magic actually is.
the term "dark magic" or "brimstone magic" or what have you, it actually makes an important distinction here, that this type of magic is at a cost to yourself, and something you must learn to control. this is further enforced by all the exhumed weapons being magic-type weapons (as in they are magical, not as in they are in the magic-class)
this all fits in with the lore really well, and all this combined makes the actual in game lore very concrete

if they just did "oh it decreases x but increases y", it wouldnt be anything special because... everything is like that. just like how you decide between warding and menacing. which is why i think this actually has potential. I dont think this trend of "it'll damage you" is going somewhere bad or whatever, since they all feel very different. you cant look at Metastasis and Cinders of Lament and think they feel the same. they both damage you but what you must do to avoid the damage is very different.

Metastasis summons the Sepulcher to attack your enemies, but every 7 seconds a heart is created. You must kill the heart, because after a second heart is created, the Sepulcher has a chance to enrage and start attacking you instead of the enemies. at 2 hearts its 25%, 3 is 50%, and so on

Cinders of Lament summons monsters that dash towards you instead of your enemies. you effectively are bullfighting, and trying to dodge the bull so it hits something else

Gruesome Eminence conjures a Genuine Ball o' Fear (as i call it. the teeth scare me). Here it is an endurance test. At first it is uncontrollable and shreds anything it sees, but if you endure it long enough and let it gain power, it no longer hurts you and you have full control over it

you get the idea. This is basically an entirely new type of weapon with tons of potential. I think another way to help make this more concrete is to introduce more self-damaging weapons earlier on, so you actually can use them in battle and stuff, since when you unlock them, their usage is basically over and you have no time to practice either. its endgame after all

next update should fix a lot of stuff, since we only now just got access to the mile-high mountain of balance changes this update.
its honestly nice to see all these radical new ideas. id much rather have a bunch of wacky, new ideas thrown at me every update that i wont use. The alternative is stagnation, redundancy, and overall more of the same, which is what makes a bad mod.

as some people pointed out, yeah, it definitively needs some improvements. Like, instead of "it will damage both you and enemy" thing, it could have better downsides, like decreasing the damage of the weapon, decrease your defense for way better damage and so much on. Damage both you and enemies is not the best approach at all

Very nice video, this covered the Enchantments very well!
Well Done Ryuu!

They seem to have this "It'll damage you" trend and it's kind of strange? When fighting bosses there's already enough to dodge so why add even more pressure to yourself?

Unlike Goblin Tinkerer, Calamitas lets you chose the scam method

The tainted enchantment dealing true melee is an amazing touch

I wish I could have Sharpness V Exo Blade :c

Weeell. The mechanic might be interesting but the enchantments seemed kinda meh to me. And it feels like they've learned a new feature "hurts both enemies and you" and now just shove it everywhere, which is boring.

We have Draedon and Calamitas the only thing left is Yharim

Murasama is actually a post scal weapon
Diagnosis: skill issue

From personal perspective and experience it appears that resentful, bloodthirsty, and oblatory give you the least amount of negative effects to yourself while sufficiently boosting your damage output oblatory in particular being pretty busted on slower weapons like eternity, vivid, fab, or Blume because the penalty is a mere 5 hp sure leecherous is also pretty good if you have pierce but as a whole it’s very situational given how many endgame weapons are based on or have homing projectiles

I see a lot of comments upset about the weapons hurting both you and the enemy. just think about the fact that at least you dont get enchantments at absolute random at the cost of your money, unlike SOME NPCs.

I like the look of some of the weapons, but most of the mechanics that SCal introduces seems way too risky, especially since you can only access her stuff like, later into post-ML, almost endgame in fact, and everyone knows how powerful post-ML bosses are and Calamity is no exception to that

the only thing I don't like about the scal NPC is that she teleports to the altar at the end of a battle instead of just turning into an NPC on the spot like the fargo NPC bosses

she lets you use lecherous on a piercing non-homing weapon, which means it can have no downsides that way
example: triactis's hammer

Most of these seem pointlessly dangerous and would hinder you more than help you. They hardly seem worth using, even though they obviously put a lot of work into this system.

According to Draedon, Yharim is supposedly the next Boss fight. Hinted at with Scal's lore item as well.
