I thought Bodi Dharma created Kung-Fu when he floated across the river on a leaf, and found the monks at the monastery sleeping and lethargic, during their prayers? Then the Grand Master of the Temple challenged his authority, So Bodi Dharma sat in front of a stone mountain, until holes were burned into it. After that, the “grand master” yielded to him, and he taught them what we know today as Kung Fu (as well as Wu-Shu which means ‘Martial Fighting etc. Kung-Fu I believe means “Excellence”) so they would exercise and stay awake during their prayers.

That’s the legend I heard anyway.

Monk Batu did not invent the Shaolin Temple he invented the exercise to keep the monks in shape because they were falling asleep during prayer during meditation that exercise he taught them became Shaolin Kung Fu 👍🏿👍🏿💯

Shaolin monk life style also inspired the jedi.

They focus on training.
Never involve in politic.
They keep villages and towns around them safe. From evil doers.

The hard training master. Don't want any politics. Always poor. Willing to fight to death. And willing to help without pay is really scary bunch of people for the bad guys. 😂

Yea but the temple gets a lot of its money from people who go there to be trained as monks so not all of them have zero worldly desires

Perhaps the most "unknown fact" about Shaolin monks these days is that the monks you see in these videos are not real monks. Their physical training and skills are real enough -- for the most part they're recruited from wushu teams around China -- but the vast majority are not real Buddhists. On their off hours they drink, smoke and have girlfriends. But the Shaolin monastery tourist trade (including foreign martial arts students who travel there to train) is a lucrative revenue stream, so they dress up and call themselves "monks" to collect tourist dollars. The CCP will never allow an authentic Buddhist monastic society with an ideology other than the Party line to operate independently of government supervision and control. The last real Shaolin monks died decades ago.

Hey narrator, fact number 1 is actually a known fact. The Indian monk didn’t found the temple, he created a set of exercises for the Shaolin monks nine year after he arrived at the temple.

Could have went with birth place of Zen Buddhism on that list. Or that the temple was an important spiritual place and the king Fu arose to protect the temple due to its importance. Or that Chinese emperor's used to send people there to represent them and earn the emperors place in nirvana....

not all the Shaolin monks live in the shower, and Temple, a good amount of them live outside next to a village which is only a couple minutes away
