Taiwan has urged Beijing to stop "irresponsible provocative actions" after a record number of Chinese warplanes entered its air defence zone.

Monday's incursion marks the fourth straight day of incursions by Chinese aircraft, with almost 150 aircraft sent into Taiwan's defence zone in total.

Beijing views Taiwan as a breakaway province.

However, democratic Taiwan sees itself as a sovereign state.

It's really lucky for China that Taiwan aren't flying lots of cheap unmanned drones etc in their airspace. That said, no one could blame anyone but China if they wrote off extremely costly aircraft in collisions with cheap drones. If you're not going to coordinate with a country's air traffic control when flying over their territory, anything can happen.

The BBC does realize that Taiwan's ADZ extends over 250km into the Mainland, don't they? This is the equivalent of the French imposing an ADZ that stretches all the way to Sheffield and then getting upset that "foreign" British military aircraft are flying over London without telling the French.
