The old cabinets were all installed with drywall screws. The right tools, really do make all the difference.

Also, putting them together upside down was the best recommendation. No one else said to do that and it was what made them look so perfect on the wall.

Good video Jeff. A couple of years ago I demo’d our kitchen, in anticipation of installing beautiful Kraftmaid Full Faced Overlay Cabinets. A couple of things… I would suggest the investment into three face clamps, specifically designed for cabinet installation. They’ll allow the face of the cabinets to be tightly clamped together, without the threat of denting the wood. In addition they have a hole through them that allows a precision pilot hole to be drilled in the middle of the face frame.

I used composited shims in the back of the cabinet to bridge the gap, then drilled a pilot hole through the cabinet and shim to the other side.

My Wife and I created our own custom shims to go between the wall and the cabinets. I’d go to Home Depot to get different thicknesses of sample LVP to bridge the gap. They worked beautifully, creating a tight custom fit.

Now that I'm retired and have all these tools and hardware I inherited from my Dad when he passed away, I am just now trying to learn how to use them all. I also have a summer home that desperately needs cabinets replaced. I'm learning something new every minute of this video. After I'm done I'm going to dig out my collection of wood screws, I know I have those ones with the square heads and had no clue how to properly use them before.

Love this video!!! Im a bit ocd, straight lines, level lines. We are fixin to install new cabinets in our kitchen in about a week. One item I used exclusively was the cabinet screw by GRK. The main reason for using this type of screw is that any screw that is countersunk is pressing outward on the wood due to the wedge effect. The flat underside of the GRK cabinet screw avoids this. The ability to hide a countersunk screw under the hinge plate is not worth the risk of splitting the stile.
