Time to Prune your Cucumbers
Показать описание
Are you growing cucumbers? Have you grown cucumbers in the past and noticed you have really gorgeous green plants, full of leaves, and not a whole lot of cucumbers? Well, cucumbers could use a good pruning! Unfortunately, that is little piece of information not commonly shared.
Its surprisingly easy to prune cucumbers especially if you have ever pruned your tomatoes. Just like tomatoes, cucumbers produce a ‘sucker’. This ‘sucker’ will turn into another main cucumber stem, which sounds like a good thing, more stems more cucumbers right? Not necessarily. Instead of focusing the plants energy on growing cucumbers on the main vine, the plant will start to transfer energy into the growth of your new secondary(or third, or fourth as it might be) vine on your plant.
By removing your cucumber suckers you redirect your already established vine to focus its energy on growing you more cucumbers, instead of more vines and leaves. But pruning doesn’t just stop there. If your finding damaged or diseased leaves on your plants, its time to bust out the shears. Plant diseases like early blight and powdery mildew can affect even young cucumber plants, so by removing those leaves you can save you plant if you catch it early enough!
On our Youtube page, you’ll find a video about pruning your cucumbers more in depth. Happy gardening y’all.
