I once thought, "Why would anyone stay in a relationship like that?"
I was in a relationship like that. You never think it will be you!

Ok sages and scholars (/s), the reason that she doesn't answer the question (why do people stay in abusive relationships?) in this short is that there is a full TEDTalk where she talks about it in more detail.

Yes! ..And we should include *psychological violence* : 78.7% of suicides are men (US, data NCHS) - often after a breakup... Insults, humiliation, subtle interference with children and visitation rights. Women's aggression is usually more subtle but just as damaging (excessive drinking, drug use, social breakdown, homelessness, suicide). Violence of any kind should not be tolerated.

AND THAT… THAT, “Why did you stay?”, “Why didn’t you fight back?”, “Why didn’t you leave?”…. And then the “I wish a man would hit me”, “I don’t understand why women let men treat them that way..”, etc… You’re right, you do not understand, and I pray you never have to, because a lot of women that have gone through abusive relationships are just like you… I used to say that… then I was in an abusive relationship. When a woman tells you she was in abusive relationship don’t say things like this, please. It makes women feel like they’re 1 foot tall. Women who have been through that and have figured how to spot an abuser a mile away (after being in an abusive relationship, you can) are the strongest and wisest women you will ever meet. Excuse me… men are abused too, but I don’t feel like adding or changing my pronouns after typing all that… lol.

That’s not code for it’s her fault. It is a straight up and sincere question. We don’t understand why someone would stay so we ask. We may be in a similar situation or know someone in a similar situation and we are trying to figure it out so we can help ourselves or our friend. Oooor… we just don’t understand and want to. I have been on this earth for 45 years and have met a lot of battered souses. I used to be a domestic violence investigator even… and my sister was a battered spouse…. In all my years I have never heard someone blame the victim
Unless it was on television.

💡"The BURNING BED" movie with Farrah Fawcett should be shown to young men/students in elementary school to highlight the HORRIBLE AWFULNESS of domestic violence.🎯
👍🏿🏆👍🏿Great movie. Haven't seen it in over 30-plus years but remember it vividly and have never wanted to be or have been violent in any romantic relationship.😎👍🏿

The sad part is that these perpetrators go into the workplace to use these same antics. These abusive and oppressive strategies can be seen now with the articles being published about MOHELA and states like Missouri. Clearly, doing anything possible to keep revenue… I have never experienced or seen violence prior to the introduction of student loan collection practices. These people will break up happy homes and deny applications for student loan debt forgiveness you qualify for.

First time I’ve ever thought of it like that. Thank you for sharing.

That's why my girl and I keep our choking, biting, and hitting confined to the bedroom.

all the men in the comments making the video clip all about themselves, gow they're the real victim, that the men have their reasons for being abusers and we can't vkame them fully. like seruously? even in a clip that didn't explicitly exclude them in the conversation about DV. it was literally just someone talking about her own experience.

also, just click the video description for the full video link, it's literally right there.

ever since the me too movement y'all have been trying extra hard to center yourselves in the conversation, once again talking over everyone else. just because you aren't at the center of everyone's attention doesn't mean you are being ignored or denied. someone else is just taking the microphone for once.
too many people have been adopting incel talking points. no one is minimizing the suicide rates, but ffs, stop interupting and taking over the conversation at every step.

Sometimes I feel our hand is forced without realizing it us even happening. I dont know why she continues to make me punish her. I feel trapped.
