German Submarine U 133

Показать описание
On March 14, 1942, at 17:00, U-133 left the Naval Base of Salamis. 45 men were onboard the submarine. At 19:02 the submarine was sailing on the surface, off the shores of Aegina, when there was a sudden explosion.
The U-boat U- 133 had fallen on a mine and sunk with all hands within minutes.
in May of the 1942, the leadership of the German Navy decided that an autopsy on the wreck should be performed, a mission difficult even with today's standards.
The assistance of their Italian allies was requested which sent a specialized ship equipped with a diving bell in order to be able to send divers to the depth of -78 meters where the U-133 lies.
Coming across U-133 one may feel awe to see a submarine literally cut in two, at the location of the crew’s compartments. The limited natural light in that depth combined with the nets that cover the watery grave of U-133, creates an impressive scene. The bow that has been detached from the rest of the hull rests on the seabed her port side, forming a 90° angle with the stern. The anchor from the bow’s right side is missing. The main part of the sub lists to the portside in an angle of about 30°.
The U-133 it was a VIIC class submarine
Displacement: 1,070 tons (769 tons on surface, 871 tons submerged)
Dimensions: 67.10 x 6.20 meters
Engines: 3,200 HP EHP on the surface (750 HP EHP submerged)
Speed: 17.7 knots on the surface (7.6 knots submerged)
Video editing: Agapi Oceanis Thoktaridi
