As I've said before, Optimus was always at the same skill level during all Bayverse movies, because a few years of fighting on Earth aren't going to make a difference compared to millions of years of fighting in a war on Cybertron. He only changed his mindset after 2007 (he wanted to spare Megatron in 2007 but after that movie, his goal was to kill him), hence why he looked stronger in ROTF and DOTM than he was in 2007, but in reality, he was the same. And he gained a few more lessons when fighting mostly Sentinel in DOTM. You can see after that fight that he learned not to go all out and think about his moves and he became more defensive. The reasons why he became a lot stronger in AOE than he was in DOTM is because he gained the flight ability, and that's an insane upgrade. I've already explained in this video a part of the reason why flight is an insane upgrade. Just think about it, if Starscream wanted to, he could just fire rockets at Sentinel from the sky and Sentinel would be helpless, while Optimus could just chase him and annihilate him. Flight also allows him to defeat The Driller and to escape from Lockdown's grenades for example. It's just an insane advantage. And his weapons, are also just an insane upgrade. He struggled against Sentinel because Sentinel had a giant shield. Even then Optimus had more sword connections on Sentinel than vice versa, but his energon swords weren't strong enough. But if he had The Sword of Judgement, Sentinel would've been sliced up. And that's already a huge power level increase (external power level increase) for Knight Optimus. And then you remember that in TLK, Quintessa made him literally MORE POWERFUL, she (probably) added strength, durability and things like that... to an already most powerful being there is

Thats the 2 of the legendary weapons the Cybertron ever had and those are "Star saber" and "Sky boom shield" the minicons merged to create these weapons, any one of those weapon wields the power to control entire solar system or even destroy it. Having two is an overkill hence Optimus is OP when he has it both. There is 3rd weapon called "Star blaster" as well which is a plasma rifle but that weapon is not shown in movie. In cartoon series Megatron once wields star blaster and sky boom sheild, he even kills optimus with it as well. But Matrix of leadership brings back Optimus!
Movie has twisted and molded the series in very earthly way, this series is very grand and mostly space based...but I guess they dont wanted this movie to have star wars vibes, so kudos for reimagining this masterpiece and bringing it justice
