preview_player

The Brazilian rainbow boa (Epicrates cenchria) is widely considered to be one of the most iridescent and beautiful of all snakes. They also have a reputation for being difficult pets to keep alive. Is this reputation warranted? Or is the Brazilian rainbow boa the best pet snake for you?

This channel needs ALOT more love then it gets. The way he explains things is so charismatic and intellectual. I've learned more about reptiles and creatures on this channel more than I have in school my whole life!

Edit: Rocket surgery

It should have been called: ‘Brazilian rainboa’

My heart melted at 6:12

Ngl. That is THE cutest face on a snake I’ve ever seen.

“It isn’t rocket surgery” is my new favorite phrase

Mine is going on 16 years old and your assessment is spot on. Not just a large water bowl but wide. The more surface area the more water will exchange with air. Ive only ever used a UTH, just a couple hours a day. Other than that room temp is pretty good for them. Also they are very tolerant of lower temps. The jungle gets cold and wet at night. Offer food too often and they'll refuse. For the past 10 years I've been feeding about once a month.

Honestly, I wasn’t too keen on snakes beforehand, but after finding this channel, I’m finding That I’m starting to warm up to them now!

Clint, Epicrates actually translates to "strong hug."

I can see why they're called rainbow boas now. Their scales are so beautiful when light bounces of them just right.

Coming from Brazil, it's weirdly amusing to see how keepers from other countries tend to see Epicrates species as uncommon gems, while here it's basically the most popular and readily available snake on the hobby, with a multitude of species of the genus to choose from
Amazing video as always Clint, your content is so great!!

I love how we learn science on this channel. It's nice that Clint makes things understandable to the layman without talking down to us. You'd make a good teacher Clint.

Those are the most beautiful snakes I've ever seen.

That iridescence is *so* wild, even on camera. I can only imagine what they look like in sunlight after a fresh shed.

I found that exact paper when trying to find out which north American colubrids are most closely related.

Did not look at the boas in that paper much but it's really cool to find out the anacondas include the rainbow boas.

I feel bad for the yellow anaconda getting dethroned as the best pet anaconda though.

I never realized how beautiful these snakes are until now.

You should make a shirt that says, “When you’re a noodle with a head, the world is a scary place.”

Rainbow boas are amazing, really diverse and beautiful.

I'm having an amazing experience with my Epicrates assisi (they're known to be super chill from a young age, a bit smaller than Epicrates cenchria and native to a semiarid area).

I'm Brazilian, and it's interesting how most breeders around here consider rainbow boas as good snakes for beginners (mainly Epicrates assisi and Epicrates crassus). They're usually calm, pretty good eaters and surprisingly hardy snakes when they're close to their natural habitat.
If you give them the right temperature and humidity, they'll thrive.

Great video and amazing snakes!

Added to the short list. I’ve always thought they were gorgeous and wanted to have one, but I only knew one person who kept one successfully and he said they were kinda hard, but seems like with appropriate research and perpetration they should be totally doable! Love it
