That wasn't an explosion in Nay's ship. That was an expanding fire burning in a plasma ball as fires do in zero-g. The special effect was excellent!

Even at the new speed limit of 100kph, an explosion may well have engulfed the ship's cabin and Naomi before it had been stopped. Imagine burning and being vaporized inside an explosion that isn't going anywhere!

Sudden decompression and vacuum extinguished the fire when Nay opened the cabin to space.

As a non-book-reader, what you considered as "filler" (Drummer and Ashford) I found to be interesting and touching.

I loved the subtle touches they made to try to accurately show the effects of 0-G on various stuff. The way Tilly's eyes just filled up with a pool of tears as she died was something I appreciated. Without gravity, tears won't fall to your cheek. Instead, it would pool up in your eyes. Something like this happened when an astronaut out on an EVA had to abort and come back aboard because something got into his eyes, and his tears were pooling up in his eyes effectively blinding him.

Another nice touch was the ball of fire coming out of Naomi's console. That wasn't an explosion. That was fire. Fire in 0-G takes a spherical shape. You can see this demonstrated in Veritasium's channel (just search for "Veritasium fire zero-g"). Now I know not all the science in the show is accurate (they did have to take artistic liberties) but touches like these for the sake of realism is very much appreciated.

I really like your recaps (yours is the only one I'm watching actually). The same goes for your Westworld recaps too.

Cheers!

The tears welling up and collecting in Tilly's eyes as she was dying in zero G was really well done as well as the explanation by the UNN doctor of internal bleeding being a death sentence in zero G, the attention to detail regarding the science being accurately used in the show is what makes this show stand out.

Learned something tonight didn’t know internal bleeding injuries in space is pretty much a death sentence without treatment

I was so touched by that proud Ashford, when he invited the other factions. Biggest joy for me this episode.

Tilly dying was a well done emotional scene. I really felt that.

what I really love about this episode and the last (besides what everyone here has said) is how they used changing camera scales to convey the true size of the interior of the Behemoth. I loved the scene where the camera pans down from the centre of the drum down to Ashford and Drummer.
But one thing, when they began spinning up the drum, the propellant escaping from the rotational thrusters too should suffer the freaky speed limit meaning that the ship gets to spin very slowly. I thought i saw purple stuff around the thrusters but they still spun anyway.

dude when they decided to spin the drum it was so emotional for me i know at that moment that they could provide gravity for the inners at the very moment and i was so happy when ashford made the call for calling the inners and also drummer's sacrifice & spinning the drum coincidence? i think not

I think part of the reason for the rushing of the book, was that they weren't sure they were going to get another season and wanted to end on some sort of closure. And while it would have been frustrating not knowing what happened after the gates opened etc, at least all the existing story lines were generally wrapped up at the end of Abadon's Gate.

That wasn't a slow motion explosion. It was fire, just regular fire. That's what fire looks like when you don't have a gravity holding it down

Amen. The Expanse fandom is fantastic. Gained a whole, huge number of new family members during the campaign to save the show! <3

It was clear the ashford/drummer scene was a sort of way to cut costs, but they are two characters I like, and I enjoyed the flipping of the script as it seemed they were cooking up a coup of some sort but these scenes kind of bonded them. This is my favorite show out there. I'm going to hold off on reading the books for a while. I want to read up until they've shot, but I don't have the self control to stop there.

Episodes 312-"Congregation" and 313-"Abbadon's Gate", are being shown as the 2 hour season finale next week, just so you know.

About the explosion on Naomi’s ship: I interpreted that console short/fire as the huge threat because it would burn up all the oxygen in her compartment/ship (as well as possibly becoming a bigger explosion when the oxygen reserves were affected), until she put on her suit and vented the compartment.

Thanks for the recap and review!! Enjoyed this episode and the pacing as well. As a watcher of TWD (which took 2 seasons to cover a week and a half of comic time), it is refreshing for a show to move forward with the story at a steady even supersonic pace. Not sure any show can compare with GoTs, but TE sure comes close. Bravo.

As another commenter mentioned, I sincerely hope you'll consider gracing us with a reaction video next week for the season finale. ; )

I've always said if I had my choice to visit a fictional universe I'd probably first go to Middle Earth, and although it's still first, The Expanse universe is steadily moving up the list. It hasn't overcome Star Trek nor Star Wars either. WBU? "See" you next week . . . LOL.
