"It doesn't care about us any more that we care about ant hills we pave over" - Holden

"What is a faloting ant hill?" - Ashford

This conversation feels like starting a game of Stellaris, finding an abandoned Megastructure right away and then having an event chain basically saying that the builders got Crisised. You are at the bottom of the tech tree, the people who built this were so high up you can't even see them and they failed to stop what came for them... And whatever came for them, is still out there.

0:55 Ashford says "What's an ant hill?" "What does pave over mean? I'm from outer space dude."

The best part of this whole scene IMO is the look of horror at 1:13 where the sheer scale of the threat dawns on Ashford. This alien civilization was powerful enough to create its own dimensional pocket, connect thousands of solar systems through self-constructing wormhole gates and bend the laws of reality at will... and even they couldn't stop this terrifying alien _thing_ from killing every single one of them. What's worse, whatever it is is probably still out there.

No wonder there is a speed limit in that space, it's an interstellar intersection.

David Strathairn carries this scene so well. Holden thinks he believes him, I think he believes him. He doesn't.

Did not expect to like Ashford this much, quite the opposite

I like how Ashford talks, its like kind of caring but also sarcastic, and there's weight behind his otherwise whimsy-sounding retorts.

And I particularly like the exchange around the anthills. Holden says the Protomolecule AI doesn't care about humans like how we don't care about anthills, Ashford doesn't understand and states this, then Holden says something that Ashford very much understands; killing and death. The audio cue at the moment Ashford realises the meaning is like hearing a titanic pin drop (at 1:13), as Ashford realises before Holden even verbalises it that what they are in is a graveyard. You can see it in his eyes.

A shame nobody listened... "We are in a graveyard. we need to get out of this place and never come back". Even his words of advice fell on deaf ears.

I wonder if a belter like Ashford ever seen an anthill before :D

So basically:

"Yeah, the people who created the proto-molecule? The people who regard the laws of physics as a polite suggestion? Something killed them. Lets dip out while we can, hmm?"

Yeah, well... you've been renewed for season 4 and who knows how many more, so we all know how _that's_ gonna go 😏

4th season was a really magical one!
The suspense and then the way they revealed details are brilliant and well put together.
It differs from the book but I believe it is great decision from the show creators.
