I love that we teach kids not to use the tools around them because it's better to be wrong than be resourceful.

They didn't start doing this until I was in highschool and i never realized until then that I shouldn't have been using the information around the room for help during tests. 😅

State level testing protocols were created by non-educators. That's the problem. Just put one active teacher on that design team to explain how stupid this policy is!!

I actually had a panic attack during a test because of it. The resources that would help me understand were gone and it felt like my brain was turned off, even after studying.

I’m doing the same thing in MD. We have 8 days of testing and everything has to be covered or taken down, and we teach until mid June. We spend the year teaching the students to use resources/strategies to help them and then those are taken away.

State testing, as it is currently, at least, is such useless, flaming garbage. Thanks for being a teacher!

Yes! We are pausing our curriculum to take a test on curriculum we haven’t taught yet. Why do we put up with this? That test means nothing. Our students don’t want to take it and it doesn’t affect grades, so what incentive do they have to try their best. Their parents don’t care. They’ll pull their kids out during testing to go on a family trip. The teachers worry because we’re judged on one stupid test, and our state doesn’t care or they would look at fallen test scores post Covid and adjust. It’s just window dressing on a failing institution

I use secret stories in my homeschool. My boys and I love it!

Never forget people, you can opt your kids out of state testing. They do not have to do it. But the parents have to be the ones, the teachers can tell you.

I HATED testing. We had the TCAP test in Tennessee. Every single year I’d just answer randomly to get done quicker. I could not give less of a fuck.

I was always too nervous to actually do well. It was and is a completely different room with no life. I couldnt relax enough to focus entirely on the test

This is such a dumb rule. I hated testing because the day was mostly silent and the classroom was so plain. It made for a pretty depressing week.

I failed all my reading tests until I got to 11th grade. I had to take reading classes that took up two class periods which meant I had one less elective. I didn’t pass until I was given unlimited time to complete it. Turns out I’m not bad at reading. I’m just a slow reader.

Middle school and high school I was a big reader too! I read a bunch of YA novels and manga back then. My freshman year of hs I even got my name put up on a bulletin board at my school’s library for reading the most books! It was because I was reading all of the manga they had there and manga don’t really take long to read lol. It was still there 4 years later when I graduated even though I had moved on to the public library by that point😅

All this is to say what most people here already bought up and it’s that these test don’t really a students actual ability in the given subject and even though it’s been 13 years since I graduated I see that nothing has changed about that. There has to be a better way.

If I had to do this, none of it would go back up until the next year, if then lmao

So stupid in the real world you get to use resources but in school you have to memorize shit you’ll never and I mean never use In the real world

Idk why this gave me Matilda vibes. When miss honey was closing all of the things that make her classroom fun and inviting

And as a parent I opt my kids OUT of state testing every time. 😂

We have 4 STAAR tests and it's a law for teachers to cover everything in the room or it's considered cheating

When teachers do this it makes the room depressing I know they have to
