Debt ceiling one things. Paying what's already owed is the law according to the 14th amendment.

I want to know the specifics of what the democrats are giving away because if they give one inch on this issue
Many people will never vote for democrats ever again. I will vote independent in every election until I die.

Default must be on the table. I never got a chance to negotiate paying my debts. This is only an attack on the lowest level income DEMOCRATS!

Maybe instead of taking out more debt pay for more spending and the interest on existing debt the US should try cutting spending instead of turning future generations into debt slaves.

If there were no way to improve the productivity of the US economy, then the rising level of debt would be more of an issue. Thankfully, under Democratic leadership, Congress passed critical industrial policy in 2021 (see bipartisan infrastructure bill & inflation reduction act) that will utterly transform the US economy over the next decade (see advanced nuclear & H2). This will supercharge the US economy in a fashion not observed since electrification.

It appears that Speaker McCarthy has made a deal with the far right to sabotage the United States under the guise of sound fiscal management. The Biden administration is right to resist McCarthy’s mad threats. The Tea Party made this an issue back in 2011, and as a result, the US credit standing dropped from AAA to AA. It is unnerving to see Americans once again playing with fire….

This is all a charade, the night before the default McCarthy's mega rich donors will call him and bring him to heel.

WHY cancel appointments in Australia? this makes the Aussie public think that the
alliance with the US is less important. Should have been business as usual for Biden.

Future spending is a budget issue. GOP needs to pay it's past spending (Debt).

If there's a default, or near default, Mccarthy should get the bill. His spinelessness is costing me money

Maybe we care if Trump is President or maybe we dont-Think about why we would allow him to win. Biden has not shown us he is on our side. He is on the middle class’ side, maybe the working class but the Definitely Democrats at the Bottom-I dont see it-To bad!

I really dont think GOP especially McCarthy is negotiating in good faith. GOP wants to default plain and simple. And then blame that on the Dems.

"No the President isnt negotiating over the Debt limit"

"heres a picture of the President talking to the opposition ..

Defaulting was never a topic of negotiation, it is like taking out a mortgage, you income aka Tax Revenue can't afford the installments, so do you default on your mortgage and risk debt acceleration which means forced to increase income aka Tax Revenue, meaning Higher Taxes, and a lower credit score on the world stage, less willing lenders. Plus the Feds would have to hike up interest rates as they have to balance out that debt acceleration. The next time round it will be cumulatively worse and so forth till the Debt collectors come knocking which will be humiliating on the world stage, it is like having a rolls royce(aka tthe US Military) and a private mansion(generally first world infrastructure) with debt collection notices all over the boundary walls and gates or spray painted on.

Not being an American this debt ceiling discussion seems weird to put it mildly. When I don't pay my off my credit card or mortgage on time I incur a penalty and potentially bad credit rating which affects my ability to obtain loans, so I pay my bills! Are Republicans that dumb to threaten their own economy and therefore Americans livelihood to stay relevant?
