For those of us in the U.S. and maybe other countries, a great idea for this recipe is to use St. Germain, it is a liqueur make from the flowers of the elderberry bush. It tastes amazing and really perfumes food greatly. You can also try marinading the blackberries in it; I have made cakes with it before and it brings out the flavor of fruit and adds great natural sweetness.4

By the way, if anyone has trouble finding a Pie Bird/Chimney/Whistle thing, check your grandmothers shelf, very popular in the early 19th century, became very collectible later. You can also check your local kitchen supply store or on the internet.

But If you need pies right this second, you can also just fashion one out of aluminium foil.
