What Type Of Aquarium Water Testing Kit Should You Use? Strips VS master test kit

In this video I am testing the accuracy of api 5 in one test strips against the api master test kit for freshwater using some nasty water from a sitting tank with waste. This is why you should never use strips. In addition to this video I have had strips tell me my ph was 6 and kept adding coral to the filter to raise it, just to order a mastertest kit and find out ph was actually 9, while the test strips still said the water was 6.

Jules, your review is the only time I have seen anyone do a direct comparison. I actually think those test strips give a "ball park" result, sice I've used them, along side Seachem & Salifert tests. In general the API strip tests are good for a general idea of your water chemistry. I found some of the parameters are more accurate than others, as you demonstrated too. Worth having if you don't have the patience to always test using more accurate kits IMHO. Incidently I have a saltwater tanks, but basically agree with your conclusion regardless. Thanks for taking time to film this :-)

Don't know why people keep saying the liquid tests are "better" than the strips...I've yet to see major differences using them both. Plus I don't like all the safety warnings using the liquid stuff they make it like an environmental hazard. Yet nobody mentions this much.

This depend on the location of the H2O you get from your aquarium.

Test some tap water that has been sitting there against your tank water that has been there the same time but with a fish in it and see if you get any difference. I didn't. Tetra 5 in1 Easy Strips. Bought at Petco a couple of weeks ago. Not exposed to unusual conditions.

Strips work good enough! If you are scared to believe take it to a petco and they can test it. Everytime strips been right on the money
