Great channel! I've had a 50 and a 75 years and years ago. Enjoyed it thoroughly. Got out of it for about 20 years. Now, at the age of 60, you have revived my love for aquariums. Patients is key. I know I went through a lot of trials and errors when I got into the hobby. Almost gave up and sold everything! Wasn't a lot of info around back then so I did what I thought worked best. Now there's a ton if info and I am learning new things every day! Subscribed!

Mechanical filtration is a huge key. In my 75gallon I have 2 penguin 350 filters with fluval sponges cut to fit then I removed the biowheels and put in filter floss across the tray the wheels sat in. Works like a dream to keep everything crystal clear

Comment to your bonus tip to help from confusing complete newbies. Air pumps are still considered "power" due to the air pump itself being plugged in to an outlet, but the sponge filter itself doesn't require a direct water pump and can be used by simply using an air stone.

Kev - Your videos are AWESOME. I have had several tanks over many years and have a new problem I have not been able to resolve in a newer tank. I have a 40gal in my home office that had an oscar for about 6 months and then had a sudden green algae bloom. It was in the water and not on surfaces like brown algae. I did an 80% water change, added live bacteria, Prime and AlgaeFix. It improved a bit over several days then suddenly bounced back to the point I could not see half-way into the tank. The oscar died on day 4. I cleaned and sanitized the tank per your video (also great). I set-up the tank with new gravel substrate and filter elements (50g capacity hanging filter). I added live bacteria and Prime and let it run for about a week. I then added a new oscar and green terror. A week later the algae bloom reappeared and the new oscar died. I added a UV light filter (50g capacity) and covered the tank with a blanket for 5 days to prevent any light. It has improved and the cichlid is doing better but still not crystal clear like your tank. Any suggestions beyond what is in your video and ebook? I have two 75 gal tanks in another room that are fine (peacock bass). I am on well water with no chlorine and my pH, nitrate, nitrite tests are all normal.
