Why Do Some Women Show Late, Or Not At All? #pregnancy. The uterus, a pear-shaped organ nestled within the pelvic cavity, serves as the cradle for fetal development during pregnancy. While the general anatomy of the uterus remains consistent across individuals, there is variability in its positioning within the pelvis. Specifically, some women have an anteverted uterus, while others have a retroverted uterus. These positional variations, which refer to the direction in which the uterus tilts relative to the pelvis, are entirely normal and typically do not pose any health concerns. Here's a comprehensive exploration of the differences between anteverted and retroverted uteruses: Anteverted Uterus: An anteverted uterus is characterized by a forward or anterior tilt, meaning that the body of the uterus inclines towards the bladder and the anterior abdominal wall. In this position, the uterus is angled forward from the cervix, forming a gentle slope towards the front of the pelvis. Anteversion is the most common orientation of the uterus, with the majority of women naturally having an anteverted uterus. Retroverted Uterus: In contrast, a retroverted uterus exhibits a backward or posterior tilt, where the body of the uterus tilts towards the spine and the posterior pelvic wall. In this position, the uterus is angled backward from the cervix, creating a slight curve towards the back of the pelvis. While less common than anteversion, retroversion is a normal variation of uterine position and is not typically associated with adverse health effects. Developmental Factors: The orientation of the uterus is influenced by various developmental factors during embryonic and fetal development. As the female reproductive system matures, the position and orientation of the uterus may vary based on genetic factors, uterine tone, pelvic musculature, and the distribution of ligaments supporting the uterus within the pelvis. #bump #baby

I know a girl who had a totally cryptic pregnancy. She had no clue she was pregnant at all and had an extremely traumatic birth where she went to Instacare and thought she was dying. It’s absolutely CRAZY.

My ex boyfriends mom didn't know she was pregnant either. She came into the ER because of the strong pain and only then found out she's about to give birth. All alone, 16 years old, and pregnant from her first time... it must've been horrible. It's a really scary thought

So that's why some people said they gave birth in toilet seat....

I was 6mths pregnant before I got any bump. My stomach was completely flat until then. I had a lot of people ask if I was sure I was pregnant. I woke up one morning and I couldn't sit up, when I pulled the blankets back I had a large bump that grow over night. Shocked wasn't the word for it😂😂

So THATS what they meant when they said I had a tilted uterus. My pregnancies never show, im currently pregnant in my second trimester and not showing at all. Sex is usually extremely painful for me as well. They were unable to get an iud to stay in place because of my uterus. It would’ve been nice if they doctors had explained this to me.

An ex of mine had what she said were "hormone issues" which she had been told would make it impossible for her to get pregnant. She had a large cyst on an ovary and went to have a scan before treatment. The doctor asked her if she was pregnant and she replied "I was told I couldn't get pregnant, why?" and he said he thought he'd just seen a foot. They confirmed she was very pregnant, carrying her daughter up high, and from what she said she showed a day or so later, and two weeks later gave birth. She was 19 at the time, and the father denied it was his because "you said you couldn't get pregnant so it can't be mine", yeah he wasn't the brightest spark.

I was a cryptic pregnancy and had a whole twin in there. My mom only found out at like 7 months cuz she injured her foot and they had to test her just incase. We were born a few weeks later cuz my brother didn't take losing hide and seek well.

When I was pregnant with my first child, in 1976, my ob/gyn discovered my uterus was tilted backward and told me to get on all 4's on the bed, leaning on my forearms, butt up in the air, holding this position for about 15 min. several times a day during the end of my 3rd trimester. He said the weight of the growing fetus would bring my uterus into the proper forward position to avoid issues later on re: carrying, pressure on my back, and labor.
This is what I do not understand: this was all determined through 'old school' manual palpation/pelvic exam when ultrasounds were not routinely part of exams__why is it so difficult to assess women's situations today, as well as, offering the same kind of simple pregnancy care I received, even without all the modern "required" equipment to detect said situations??? 😒

I remember this tiny, girl in high school who was gone for a while. When she came back to school, she had…a stroller…and a newborn. Apparently even she hadn’t been aware she had been pregnant until, more or less due date. It’s amazing how the human body works!

I was never told that I have a tilted uterus, but at 4 months, I was barely showing, too! There was a VERY subtle bump at that point, but I also had two ovarian cysts the size of a softball and tennis ball in there. I don’t know where all of that was hiding. 😅

By around 7-8 months, I finally started looking pregnant. Many of my relatives were saying my baby was going to be small and that I wasn’t eating enough (which honestly hurt because I put so much effort into eating right to grow a healthy baby). Turns out, he was over 8 lbs at birth and completely healthy! ❤

Two different strategies, evolutionarily.

Uterus pointing back, avoids having the woman's shape being altered and encumbered, allowing her to conduct many if not all of any activity she engages in without issue.
Con: literally don't even know you're pregnant.

Uterus pointing forward, makes it clear you're pregnant within the first few months, allowing members of your family and community to account for that fact, now able to consciously decide to give you greater priority and protection.
Con: increase in volume results in it being harder to fit into spaces in general, difficulty bending down, general movement impairment, risk of blunt force trauma against the belly itself.

My 2 siblings and I were all born into toilets because our mother had all cryptic pregnancies and didn’t know she was pregnant. It happens more than you think.

I didn’t find out I was pregnant with my 4th baby until I was a little over 5 months pregnant. Nothing changed until my boobs started hurting and I knew and went to confirm it but was shocked at how far along I was. My aunt started bleeding really bad one day and went into the ER to find out she was 5 months pregnant and had to give birth to a baby a little over a pound. He was born on Saint Patrick’s Day and he’s more than lucky, he’s a walking miracle. He was in the hospital pretty much the first year of his life. I’ll never forget what he looked like. He was so tiny and his skin was almost see-through. He could literally fit into the palm of your hand. He’s in his 20’s now and is perfectly fine and healthy.

Also if you exercise a lot and have defined/strong abdomen muscles, it may cause your muscles to have difficulty stretching! Doesn't really affect the baby but you probably won't be showing until late in the pregnancy as well

Edit: the keywords here are "also", "may", and "probably". Having defined abs is not an only or an always thing, it's just another factor that can cause some women to not show when pregnant. I'm just adding information to what's already been said in the shorts. Others in the reply also said having long torso is another factor that can cause this ^^
