I have had a modded 9x for some time now, this Taranis radio is basically a fully modded 9x out of the box, if you google Open Tx you will see on the forums all the mods have been around for a while, I will be buying one of these as I know the potential of this radio and how much of a game changer it is. The firmware and support alone are worth twice the price of the radio.

I can not believe it took me 2 years to dive into Open TX... Open TX would have saved me a lot of heartache and frustration.

Hi Bruce,
I was sure you would know that but just wanted to make sure people watching the video knew it is different to the er9x (which I used to use).

I need to correct myself as well, it is now called 'OpenTX' to separate it from the 9X Radios as the Taranis is really quite different hardware. But, again, I'm sure you know all this.

Great work as usually btw.

love your reviews! Always very informative and detailed. Most of all, correctly analyzed.
thank you. I've been thinking about buying one of these, or the next higher model, for a while now.

I cant be happier with my Taranis. I just made a custom splash screen for mine and added some Top Gun music. For a price of a DX6i this is waaaayy better

I fly with my Hitec Aurora 9 and Optima receivers . The Optima receivers operate on up to 27 volts and give in-flight motor battery telemetry with not additional devices. I would like to view some very basic information about "open systems". I get the impression that these new systems have cheaper receivers, have advantages for multi-rotor and FPV flying ( I'm not interested in either) but I don't understand what advantages "open systems" will give me, a mostly electric powered scale model flier, over and above "closed systems" such as Spectrum, Futaba, and a few others.

Stopped us flying over Dartmoor. :+( Kind regards Chris

That would be great. It would be interesting to see the internal FrSky support go head to head with the external Orange DSM2 module. :)

I spoke to FRsky a few months back, they said they will be available from
Aloft Hobbies in USA
T9hobbysport in UK
HiModel

they were making a small number that were meant to be released in march or april. They will be in full production soon.

I recently got a Radiolink AT9 at a bargain price. Unfortunately the documentation is bad and there is nothing on the intenet for it. Being new to the hobby I can not even bind the receiver to the transmitter. So could you do a review about t and so haw to do the Tx-Rx binding.

in the 9xr you would set the backlight to turn on when you pressed lep on the arrow pad then scrolled down to something that would say backlight then select activate on button press rather than on stick

I like your comments on the build quality.   Been considering the DEVO F12E, but havent heard anything about those quality wise. Thoughts?

PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE do a full review on how the telemetry works, how much effort it takes to calibrate etc.

Thanks Bruce

Bruce.
Maybe the included NiMh pack is because of potential postage/shipping hassles with Lithium technologies.
(I have a friend who's had factory made cylindrical LiFe TX packs taken at the airport recently, but they were fine with his laptop with it's LiOn's in it).
