Today we compare SpaceX Starlink vs Verizon Home internet service to hopefully help you decide which service better fits your needs.

I've been asked many times how Verizon Home compares to Starlink internet service so I decided to make this video.

What I learned:

Not all high-speed internet services are created equal.
Not all unlimited internet service is actually "unlimited".
Understanding the weaknesses and strength is always helpful.
The overall cost is extremely important to most people.

A week after I installed my Starlink Verizon 5G Home Internet came out. I signed up for the Verizon service in addition to my Starlink to compare the two. Typical speeds: Starlink 130/16 and Verizon 300/30. Costs: Starlink $110 and Verizon $50 (discounted to $25). Reliability: Starlink no issues since installed in Jan 2022. Verizon: I have to reset the router once a week. I have not pinpointed the problem, but the Verizon router have strange sudden drops in speed for short periods. I live in a rural area, but have a Verizon 5G tower in the lot next to my house.

Thanks for the video! I had a local wireless company that only gave 5mb service for $60 a month and they had no intention of upgrading the service. I recently switched to T-mobile home for $50 a month and it's been great, at 30-50mb download speeds I am loving life. I thought of trying Starlink but the upfront cost is prohibitive for me.

Your presentation skills on this subject are outstanding. Since getting Starlink less than four weeks ago, you've provided a wealth of information and I thank YOU!. My only complaint regarding Starlink is that it keeps showing me as being located in 60602, which is Chicago, IL and I am nowhere near Chicago. Chicago is 431 miles away from me. JCristina, keep up the fantastic job you do!

Thanks J, you are teaching me quite a bit on this digital channel.

I love that Verizon only finally delivers as soon as starlink is able to onboard substantial amount of customers...That said, when i first got starlink 2 months ago I was seeing 170mb down and 20 up consistently. That has changed to rarely above 30 down and 5 up. Sadly thats a major improvement still from my DSL line

Hey Joe, I guess it's different in FL but out here in Arizona ( Meadview, grand canyon area ) after you hit your cap they slow you down to 600 kbs! I switched to a 50gig plan so as not to have that problem at about $100 a month. Also Verizon is pretty much the only reliable service out here and there's only one tower! Talk about congestion! I ordered my Starlink on the 11th and will get it tomorrow the 18. One week turn around is not bad at all. Anyway I'm a new sub and have really injoyed your vids, keep them coming, your doing great!

@JCristina I have 1 GB cable/fibre available from multiple providers, and I live in the UK I would never need Starlink, I do however enjoy the tech behind it and the way you talk about them. Keep up the good work .

Rural installer of both systems here in NW Ark. Great video, however another factor not mentioned here is Starlink requires a large amount of clear skies to operate without hiccups, whereas the Verizon LTE routers work better in heavily treed areas. To boot, I can add a cellular booster in most of my installs and “fix” certain deficiencies in Verizon systems. The Starlink will either work in the location or it won’t.

Your points on throttling are spot on by the way, but in most of my installs, folks are just happy to have functional internet and aren’t that sad about loss of 4K streaming.

Great videos. I watch and learn something from every one of them and I’ve been doing this industry for over 20 years! Keep it up!

I have had Starlink for a couple months now and absolutely love it. Keep in mind, I live in a rural area and have no fiber available and previously had HughesNet. I have not set up my mesh network yet so I’m just running off the supplied router, my house is 2, 600 square feet and the router is not in the center. It’s off to one side so the signal quality varies. That being said, we can have 2 smart tv’s, X-Box series X, gaming pc and an iMac and only get some spooling on the smart tv’s. Kids say they don’t have any issues with the games. Quality even seems to be getting better. Love your videos brother

First payment of $110 came out this month, running at 40 mbps out here in the mountains of CO so what's up with the discount, and that Grunt Style T. Good vibes bro

As a retired Verizon Operations Engineer, I can confirm what you are saying about throttling. The interesting part is that I tried to get Verizon Home on my employee plan and I was told it is not available where I live(I live in the country) even though two of my neighbor friends have it and get decent speed. However, I need what starlink offers. I just installed it and through a traceroute, found that my IP is over 400 miles away. My latency is high and throughput is low. I've contact SL and am still waiting for them to correct this.

that's the Verizon LTE home service you're talking about not the 5G home on their 5G home service you can stream 4K no problem, no throttling .

Just 2 days ago I switched from Verizon to Starlink. We moved 3 years ago to rural mountains. We ended up getting the Verizon and it was better than nothing. Our patience was being tested everyday. I forgot what it was like to have high speed internet. I LOVE Starlink. It's been a game changer for us. I couldn't even use my iwatch because doing the upgrade were really hard and took hours!

You are being generous with Starlink. I'm in Florida and just got my Starlink after a 1.5 year wait. It avg's 30-50Mbps on avg. It can, for brief moments, goto 120M or so... but not reliably. I don't think the southern latitudes are built out enough yet.

All of this info is great. Something to add into this video is the areas that are on the waitlist for Starlink will get very spotty service due to congestion I don’t get much over 25mb download. Asked customer service and they said once my area is out of the waitlist I should see a bump in service.

We live in a rural area and use Nomad waiting for Starlink to come to this area. I’m trying to learn the technical part of all this. Nomad is $150.00 a month and has latency on the internet search but, good on YouTube movies. Not sure on Netflix or gaming.

I have a 10kWh battery system powering the Starlink and extra routers and more!. We have storms here felling trees that take down power lines and internet cable lines. Can take several days to get repaired, but Starlink works!
