BEYOND PAINT vs. REGULAR PAINT | DIFFERENCES

One common frequently asked question about Beyond Paint is what makes it different from regular paints? In this video we explain how not all paint is created equal and that paints have different uses and properties that is worth noting before beginning a project.

Beyond Paint is not only a paint and primer like some paints on the market but it is also made of the highest nano technology which means it has 4x the paint particles to that of regular paint. How is that beneficial to a household project? Well if your substrate isn't just a regular wall you will want a paint that provides better coverage and that can bond to that particular surface without chipping or scratching after its cured. This will also eliminate the need to sand/de-gloss and use a separate topcoat to make it more durable.

Surely you can utilize regular paint for refinishing projects but what we want to showcase here is the ease of use with Beyond Paint and its ability to help you complete projects in less time, with less effort, for less money.

I bought a gallon of off white Beyond Paint to paint my golden oak kitchen cabinets. Even though it cost me a $100 for the gallon, plus 2 pints of sealer at nearly $40 each, I figured it was worth it if I didn't want to sand or prime. Boy, was I disappointed! It was WAY more work, I wish I'd gone with Benjamin Moore's Hybrid paint at half the cost and no sealer needed. I still sanded the facings, and primed the cabinets in the 2nd half of this project. Primer didn't matter... it still required 2 and sometimes 3 coats of paint on both the front and back cabinet doors and drawer fronts. The oak kept bleeding through, and the doors that were primed, the primer was bleeding through. The cabinets that didn't get primer first, there were spots where the sap was seeping through the paint, no matter how many coats I used to cover it up. It needed primer first. I ended up putting a thin layer of caulking over the sappy spots to stop it from seeping through, then 2 coats of paint and sealer. I let it dry for several days before applying 2 coats of the sealer. The sealer was pulling up spots of the paint when I applied it, even after drying for several days. So again, I had to touch up those spots. Also, the sealer needs to be applied VERY thinly, but in the crevices of the cabinets, it collected and began to yellow. This happened where ever it was just a tad too thick. So I painted over it, just in the crevice itself. Also, be careful with the sealer that it doesn't drip, which I missed with the first batch of doors. I had to pick out the dried drip, sand, it and again, touch it up with paint and sealer. I ended up buying another pint of sealer (my 3rd) so I can do the cabinets in the laundry room. I painted 30 drawer fronts and cabinet doors with about 3/4 gallon of paint. I think the trick with this paint is to apply it thick, allow it to dry for a good week before applying sealer, and be prepared to do at least 2 coats. In the bathrooms I'll use Benjamin Moore Hybrid paint. The cabinets look great, and I'm hoping the paint will hold up because I am NO mood to do these again!! BTW: I'm 70 y/o and did a lot of research before deciding on Beyond Paint. I personally recommend Benjamin Moore Hybrid, that was my original first choice before discovering Beyond Paint.

Can your paint be purchased from retailers or just online?

Ok I was pretty harsh on the product. The paint product does a very good job at covering Formica countertops, credit where credit is due. Stay far away from their clear coat sealer. And suggestion to the company either buy into like Krylon spray on sealer or mimic the product. I painted my counter top 6 weeks a go and applied your sealer after. Up until four days ago your sealer still was not harden enough and still left streaks when anything came in contact with the surface.
So if you’re using beyond paint, do yourself a favor and seek out a high quality durable sealer or clear coat. I’d suggest spray on as well for complete coverage. Be forewarned don’t freak out if you see a white coating gathering on the surface after spraying, it was dried clear coat and after drying for 24 hours I wiped it off with a rag.

does anyone know if I can take a can of white Beyond Paint to a local Lowes/Home Depot and have them color it for me? I'm not crazy about any of the BP colors. Thanks

Is it ok to add just a bit of water to thin it so multiple layers can be painted on? I don't mind doing two coats on my furniture pieces. Is it ok to put a second coat on? If yes, about how long to let the first coat dry for best results?

One thing that is NOT impressive is the way to open the bottle. MAKE SURE when you peel back the foil top that you also grab the plastic cover underneath or you will be stuck pulling a glomp of plastic off the top. The plastic took so much paint with it I just used my chip brush with the plastic as the tray...messy but this stuff is too expensive to waste. So...first impression for Beyond Paint...improve your cover removal process/material. Just finished the first coat. Where I sanded after using wood filler, the adhesion was much better than the non sanded portion so ding on that..for now. We'll see how the 2nd coat turns out....more to come.

You scratched the regular painted door with your thumb nail and the Beyond Paint painted door with your four fingers, doesn't look as if you put as much effort with your four fingers as you did with your thumb nail. I wish you would have scratched both with either your thumb nail or your four fingers. It seems deceptive, just sayin'.
