How to Change Horizontal Axis Values in Excel 2016

If your Excel version looks different, here is an alternate way!

Your data is broken up into two dimensions, these are the X-axis and the Y-axis. You can use the information by using the
1.Select Data
2. In the Horizontal (Category) Axis Labels box, click Edit.
3. In the Axis label range box, enter the labels.

I cannot get Excel 2019 to plot a text (categorical) X-(horizontal) axis. The column of labels for the X-axis is defined as text, but Excel 2019 always converts that to an ordinal integer. I never had this problem with any previous version.

Your explanation is very clear. But I don't have that option in my Excel 2016! I'm using a boxplot. The x-axis only gives me the number 1 instead of label. But the labels in the adjusting data sections is correct. Why doesn't this work? I'm in tears.

My excel does not look like this. Hitting 'select data' brings up a single box to input one series. And that series is always made into the vertical axis and random X values are assigned.
