What you really need to worry about is where the lake has a strong current and it wears the ice thin. This happened to my boss. They drove their car on the ice to go icefishing and they keep their windows down incase of a breakthrough.

It was really morning and still dark and they didn’t see the there was a hole that was starting to freeze over like in this video. Their car goes in. They proceed to jump out of the windows and swim out of the whole. They see a lit up camp on the shore and head that way to seek shelter and call for help. When they got there they noticed no one was home.

They had the decision of either freeze or go inside and change out of their soaked clothes and warm up by the still lit fire. They chose the latter obviously. When they called the authorities and told them of the accident they also left a note for the camp owners and told them what happened and that they used towels and used their phone line. And left a way for them to contact them if needed.

The next day the police called them and were asking a bunch of questions about their story and the owners of the camp and after everything was figured out here’s what they found out.

The owners of the camp also went out on the ice in their vehicle. both parents and their 16 year old daughter. Driving with the windows up. They fell into that thin part of the ice and couldn’t get out of the vehicle due to the pressure and they ended up drowning in the vehicle. That morning is when my boss went out icefishing. When the authorities went in to retrieve the vehicle they saw it was upside down on top of the camp owners vehicle with them inside.

That part of the lake had thin ice due to the natural current that the water flows. Making it harder for the water to freeze.

Pretty awful story. This is why I never drive on the ice.

“Don’t do this…”
Considering I don’t know how or even what they are doing much less where to do it… I think I’m ok.

This is very important, always mark the hole with a dead pine tree (I prefer dead Christmas trees myself) or large sticks placed vertically around it.

In Finland at least, you have to mark holes is ice with a red flag or stick. It is really dificult to get the block of ice out of the hole.

In Michigan your required to place brush or branches over any large hole you leave.

To me, playing around on any Frozen water falls firmly in the "play stupid games, win stupid prizes", category.

When i was a kid about 8-10 if i recall, i fell through the ice on a lake because spear fisherman didn't mark their hole. Normally you leave the ice chunk out right next to it, or you go find a big branch from the shore and leave that partially in the hole. They didn't mark it.
I broke through, stuck my arms out, caught myself somewhat, and immediately popped back up and rolled out. I was about 10ft behind my dad, he had no idea i fell through, i didn't yell or anything. I was in and popped immediately back out, it was less than 2 seconds total. I had to tell him i fell through.
Mark your holes.

Actually it's dangerous to leave the block out on top for snowmobilers. Proper way is to flag off the hole when you're done.

yes. also an important tool to have when doing this, is ice spikes, or climbing spikes tied on to your wrists, so you are able to climb back out, if you fall.

Always a voice of reason. Thanks for your videos!

Pushing the ice under is fine. Just flag it with some tree branches or ribbons so people know it is a marked hole. Big ice spearing lakes usually have plowed road ways too so you know safe ice to drive on then go slow over un marked parts of the lake.

You can mark the thin spot with something else. Christmas trees are common by me. They sink and become fish habitats in the thaw.

Tik toks be like “you’ve been breathing wrong all your life”

So far the comments are suggesting breathing techniques for other things but a normal breathing where you just involuntarily breathe through nose and exhale through nose or mouth. Obviously for running, swimming, sleeping, meditation and so on all have different breathing techniques. That’s like saying using a spoon is wrong go eating cereal because the milk Can fall off but for yogurt you can use the same way because yogurt doesn’t fall off as easy. The same is not said vice versa

Plus, it was a joke….

Do it every winter ice fishing or setting net. More dangerous to leave a 200lbs block frozen on top of the ice than shoving it under.
