While boosting the "sides" on a mid/side processor you're boosting the "middle" as well (except everything that's mono - dead centered). So it has to be done carefully

This is one topic I’m still having trouble grasping. I can pretty much understand everything in music production, mixing/mastering/compression, but my mind isn’t wrapping around mid side eq.

Mid/side EQ on the master with zero latency is really bad idea, unless you like to mess up your stereo panorama in completely unpredictable ways. It's impossible to decode m/s once there has been a phase shift because of the way the decoding works, it totally relies on the phase being exactly as it was before.

I know I'm poor or whatever bc I still use fruity parametric eq but is there a way to modify the side image using it? I can monitor the side image but it still modifies everything

Oh Boy, mixing up basic terminology like Side-Signal and putting stuff “hard L/R” is what gets most people confuse on what’s what. Facepalm
