Why is it that every time a pawn is moved to the final row of the chess board it gets promoted to another piece? Almost like it's guided by some "Rules of Chess". Checkmate...

The thing about math and religion is that if the Bible said 2+2 = 5 they would have no choice but to defend it.

*Creator of English:* How about we make "law" refer to prescriptive mandates that humans either must do or must not do.

*Scientist:* Cool, but how about "law" is also a description of behaviors we find in nature.

*Creator of English:* Dude . . . that's like not at all the same.

*Scientist:* Don't worry, I'm sure nobody will ever conflate these two meanings.

That young man seemed so pleasant and genuine. It's clear that he has never thought deeply about any of these issues. Exactly the kind of mark that shysters like Freel love to hold up.

These sort of 'apologist ambushes' always piss me off. Instead of making a good faith argument and starting off by stating their position, they beat around the bush and try to trick people into agreeing with their overall argument by getting them to agree to smaller successive statements that appear innocuous. They do this because they don't want the person (usually college student) to critique them. It's the same shit that cults do but on a shorter timescale. Start off with ideas that people aren't going to be critical of (like self-help techniques) and once they have foot in the door, start shoveling in the bullshit. Completely disingenuous and gross.

For the same reason that you don't want abstinence only sex ed, and you don't want creationists teaching biology or geology, you don't want Todd Friel teaching math.

Did he run out of atheist college students that aren't prepared for an impromptu debate as they walk to class? Because his target today demonstrates that christian students can be at least as unprepared.

ooh as a mathmatician who studied set theory and caretery theory, model theory and proof theory (mathematical logic) I can clearly say math needs no god!
in fact math has reinvigorated my disgust for christian sophistry!

Todd's intrusive stupidity is as painful as explaining Mathematics to Baldrick.
"If I have Two Beans and I add Two More Beans, What do I have?"... "Some Beans".

I love that moment Friel revealed/realized he was talking to a Christian he realized "ah shit, I wasted my time with this, better try and salvage it by making up some stupid ass question about what this random guy would say to a non Christian." Dude straight up asked the guy he interviewed to do his job for him

Imagine being 100% certain you god is real, yet the best evidence you can come up with is "2+2=4" or "tides come in, tides go out".

Math doesn't prove God, it proves Zorg.
Praise Zorg 🙌

I never used to believe in Zorg but ever since I started to it has changed my life so much, therefore Zorg exists and if you start believing in Zorg he can change your life too.

Zorgs handy work is everywhere, look at the trees.

Math was invented to describe the universe.
It's not that hard.

There even were math systems, that didn't work as well. Like a base 6 one that didn't have a 0.
That's enough evidence for its non-divine origin.

When Todd asked "what would you say to convince me to become a Christian" my immediate - facetious - response was "it makes me feel good!"

I find the consistency of bad argumentation more frustrating than anything.... I wish theists would at least surprise me every once in a while.

Why couldn’t people create math?

Great question. People can create math. There’s no contradiction to say people created math. In fact, we created rules like chess in which everyone who plays chess, knows how to follow the rules. If people break the rules, then they’re no longer doing chess.. this is similar to math.

From what I've learned the invisible sky wizard is suppose to be all-powerful but can't seem to do a damn thing for itself. And that would include mathematical problems.

This is just another presumption where god is already established, then working backward to try to make the idea function. These “arguments” if at all could be called. It’s like a kid told to clean their room so they stuff all the contents into a closet and hope it doesn’t spill back out into the room getting them in trouble.

_"...then other laws were discovered"_
i gotta disagree with this. those other laws were deduced, not discovered.

This is such a compelling argument. Just what an omnipotent, omnificent God needs to prove that he is real.

Every time I think I've heard the dumbest apologist argument, Friel comes up with a new, even dumber one.
