God bless you!! I didn’t know about using the clear caulk and I would have been SO frustrated had I not seen this video before I started my project!! I forgot to use it on one section and definitely saw the difference. THANK YOU!!

If you’re a beginner, DIY, inexperienced painter like me…this hack is for you! HOWEVER…I learned the hard way that this does not work if you let the caulk dry!! I tried to make my life easier by taping the floor and caulking the night before so I could wake up and paint, however, if you let the caulk dry, when you pull the tape up, you’ll see the paint has adhered to the dried caulk on the floor…doing the exact opposite of what this hack is supposed to prevent 😩😭😩😭😩 Hopefully I can pull up the caulk once the paint is dry. When I painted on top of the wet caulk this worked perfectly!

You could always paint the trim before installation and then touch up if necessary. I just saved you money on tape and caulk.

I slide contractors paper under trim if I can. This method works but the tip was cut too big. You just need a skinny bead

Works with all painters tape. Caulk creates a barrier between the paint and tape to prevent paint bleeds

You have to wait for the caulk to dry. The trouble is that clear caulk is not supposed to be painted before dry, and my usual brand PL230, takes 1-2 weeks to dry. Other colors take 2-4 hours and can be painted when dry. If you use clear, you must leave the frog tape in place for 1-2 weeks, then paint. OK for some DIY projects, but most want to be finished sooner than that.

Never ever paint wet caulk unless you are using oil based paints and then I still wouldn’t risk it

No no no. This will crack and split once expansion and contraction starts. Will look horrible later on.

If you're a real painter, then you probably don't need this video anyway. I'm no painter, and this would have helped me a month ago when I accidentally painted the floor under my dining room trim.

Never paint caulking while it’s still wet. It will eventually fail

By the way, you are not supposed to caulk against the floor because right now could look fine, but in short time, that is going to break because the natural movement of the floor. WRONG BOY!

I just tape up the trim a 16th it’s easier than you’d think. I was dreading it because we just put in new floors but ended up painting an entire apartment in a couple hours. Be careful when you’re pulling the tape, only bit of mess I made.
