This is literally helping my life guys😂 I started only doing 10 min trash/food cleanup, 10 min diahes, 10 min pick up stuff on gloor/sweep.... i have a visual timer and ONLY do that task. Sometimes I do it all in a row. Sometimes I do things in between or even take a rest and then go back. It is 🎉

This helps so much! I have ADHD and when I don't take my medicine I'm literally like a pyscho

I'm 42, been diagnosed with ADHD 20 years ago and still cannot invite anyone over without having to guilt clean beforehand. Breaking down the chores into manageable chunks doesn't do the trick for me, because I'll still feel bad if I only get half of the job done. Also, for me the problem is getting started, no pulling through. Once I'm at it, it's usually nowhere near as bad as it seemed. Kicking my own ass hard enough to get started is what I've been practising for all my adult life (if you can consider anyone with ADHD an adult that is).

If I’m met with this challenge, first step is to get them out of the sink onto the counter.

Second, stack and organize by dish type (plates, bowls, etc.)

Third, I break here and get something to drink, scroll Spotify for new music, or have an audiobook from the library ready. I get my headphones.

Fourth, back to the kitchen with headphones and get started.

The messy pile of dishes is a deal breaker for me. The stacking and organizing, cleaning the sink gives me a better sense of how big the task really is.

I find myself in a better place after the break, giving myself some time to really eye up the task.

Gotta break the tasks down, the more confident I am in how I’m going to get it done, the better.

I have noticed when putting dishes away if I just aim for doing the spoons then most of the time I am able to do the rest of the utensils and sometimes even the coffee mugs before I need to take a break. I have chronic pain and seizures and most of the time I can’t stand for more than five minutes at a time. Since I haven’t found a comfy stool to use in the kitchen yet and I don’t always remember to bring my walker in there and sit on that I have found that doing things a little bit at a time works way better for me in the long run than trying to rely on a hyperfocus that may or may not kick in for another month and wipe me out for a week. It does get really hard to stop myself after the utensils and before the bowls and the cups if my back is needing a break but my mind is going, “Yay! Now we got started let’s go, go, go!” But I have learned to do more detailed and truly honest body check ins with myself before I proceed to the next part of a task. That helps keep me from going overboard and trying to clean a whole room at once as often as I used to, which is really important so I don’t exacerbate the seizures. I don’t always remember to start with the spoons, but I noticed when I do that it makes the rest of the task much easier to tackle! 😃😃

This is literally the only way I can get a bigger chore done and it's been that way since I was a kid. "Clean my room" started with me breaking down my room into zones and writing up a checklist of the zones to clean. Then it finally seemed manageable and a single zone was way easier to concentrate on than the whole room... flash forward to now in my mid thirties and I still have to break down my "Clean the House" chore into individual rooms, types of tasks, or zones lol

Something that helps me is after I am done with cookware I emedently wash it and everything I used to make my meal. Using my food as incentive I know when I'm done I have a nice meal waiting for me even if I do have to re heat it sometimes 🙃

I just divide the different types of dishes and do one or two. relatable example that happens to me: I want to clean the dishes but it a pile, so I divide them and do just the 🍴and 🥤. I take a break and do the rest after or the rest of my family does it also dividing the task between them so everyone does something 😊

:O I'm blinking. I do the dishes, then the cups, then knifes and forks then bowls, then posts and pans! Always. I can't do it in a different order. And I never put the dishes in the sink. It must be empryy otherwise I don't do the dishes. I always put the dirty dishes on the side of the sink and table

Lol 😊 dishes and me enemy number one especially with a family to take care of. I haven't been officially diagnosed but the method of breaking up the task has benefited greatly and has lessened the feelings of overwhelming and omg why....

I actually figured this out on my own. I take all the big things like pots that need hand washed out of the sink and set it to the side then I do what goes on the top rack of the dishwasher like cups bowls and the big spoons for like pots and stuff then I move to the bottom like bigger bowls and utensils then after all that I close the dishwasher and do the pots and that’s how I do it

“Sounds healthy…too bad I don’t know where to start. Time to stare at the pile for 30 minutes in stress” 😂

The problem with this method for me is how much effort it takes to transition from task to task. It takes so much work to just start doing the dishes that I would rather suffer through doing all of them than having to go through that transition twice

Personally I just get someone to empty the sink for me and then I can do the dishes

Seperate the dishes in the categories its way better
