While it is kinda weird this isn't just a 2nd edition, im essentially going to treat it like one. Chances of me going back to the original are pretty slim.

I’m so happy that you have videos on almost every board game I’ve bought. Keep up the incredible work!

Honestly I think it’s not named a second addition or any of that because of the designer Paul Dennon, and publisher dire wolf digital. They did this similar thing with Clank! Make one successful game, make a few expansions, then do Clank! In space, make a few expansions. Do a legacy game, do another version in Catacombs. Though the Clank! Variations felt like they made a bit more sense, it’s definitely the same format as we are seeing here. Just wait for the dune imperium legacy game that will come in a year or two.

Spicier is definitely right. The decision space in Uprising is significantly richer with some huge combo potential with spies and increased card draw. Everything is just more cohesive and more involved. The simple change of making the Arrakis Liaison card Bene with card draw for friendship is so minor on paper but huge in practise. Likewise for making the new mentat space stronger but with Emperor friendship. Spies allow you to plan ahead and keep options open no matter what - another seemingly small change that somehow is hugely impactful. I don't feel as bad when someone jumps into a spot before me because if it was that important to me to go there, I should have planned ahead with a spy so it's my own damn fault.

The cards too. Oh my. Even the 1 cost cards are tasty with deckbuilding being much stronger in this version.

Yeah... could wax lyrical about this for a while!

Thank you so much for this quick overview. It's hard enough to get people to commit to a 3 hour game, but even harder to get them to watch a 60 min video explaining the game! 😂

My friends have loved Dune Imperium, and Uprising looks like a great update!

Many players complained that the sandworms are too swingy, since it's not impossible (or even uncommon) for one player to gain three or four points all at once using worms and end the game as early as turn seven.

This did indeed happen in my first game, but not in any subsequent plays, because now we all know to pay attention to how much water everyone has and prepare for a big fight once the third stage conflicts show up.

Nice, watching this 3 minutes after it is posted.

I love the original. I haven't gotten around to expanding it, but it's been on the agenda. I probably don't feel like i need to improve the game, so even if the new one is better I'm still happy enough with what I have. However, I'm interested in the ability to play at 6 players - that might actually let me get it to the table sometimes.

Dune Imperium is one of my favorite games, and I've been loving Uprising too. Also, I played the new digital version of DI and that has gotten me back to playing the base game at the table without expansions, which has been fun to revisit and a nice way to introduce new players to the game. I'd like to try the Epic Mode from the Ix expansion more too. I'll probably still play DI a bit more than Uprising this year, but I'm guessing that balance will shift to mostly playing Uprising in the years to come.

Looking forward to getting my first play in tomorrow night!

I'm just not as big on direct conflict, so I'm sticking with LRofA (with both expansions). But I respect DI and would try the new version if it shows up at my local club.

I feel like a Chad for pointing it out, apologies, anyone reading the rules should catch it themselves but
:30 which looked like setup, 3 troops go in your garrison to start
1:36 you say at step 3 & 5 but isn’t it 2 & 4 you get the vp and faction token respectively? When your cube enters the space with the yellow vp symbol you gain it so that is only the second move up a track, and only two more moves to get the faction token.
2:14 somewhat got difficult to hear but the spy allows you to go to a occupied space as you said, but you can also recall a spy at a space you go to to draw a card, not sure if that was mentioned, apologies if so.
Regardless, nice review sir.

I owned Imperium and sold it after I got Uprising and while I personally prefer Uprising I had to rebuy the first one again as it would hit the table more often.

Sometimes more complex and more intricate mechanics mean that the particular game is not as suitable for your player group any more. In my case Uprising was just too complex for 2 of the guys and so Iended up owning both. The fact that there are compatible helps a lot.

In some ways this feels similar to Dead Winter...

Just ordered this since all the reviews seem to be glowing and I love worker placement and deck building. I’m not attached to the Dune IP though, which makes me worried I won’t enjoy this as Arnak.

I put off buying Imperium just because. Eventually got it and IX at the same time; this being after Immortality and the big box/upgrade pack came out. Then a week or so later Uprising was announced so yeah I got that too. I want to toss Imperium and just keep the cards but it’s a solid enough game to own too I guess.

Is there anything included in Imperium that has been removed for Uprising that someone might miss?

I thought you got the Alliance point on the 4th step of the influence track of a faction...

I'm pretty happy with my copy of Tyrants of the Underdark, so won't be playing this anytime soon. I also lack an experienced group of players to play this with. Probably will be coming back to this in a couple of years down the line.

As a matter of fact it's not a game for up to 6 players. It's either 1-4 or 6.
