For years, Crimea has been an important part of Putin’s agenda, and there are signs that the territory may soon become even more central to the war.

But what makes this peninsula in the Black Sea so important to Putin? And what would happen if they lose it? Could it even mean the end of Russia?

If you don't knock a bully down when you have the chance than you shall forever live in fear of what he may or may not do.

He came and took the land by force... He should loose it by force! And be satisfied with what he has left and rebuild his country!

If Russia had stopped invading Crimea, there is a good chance they could have kept it for the rest of their lives. But they wanted more, they wanted everything and now there's a chance they could lose everything.

IMO once Ukraine has HIMARS in range of all of Crimea, it will be the beginning of the end for Russia's presence in Crimea.

Crimea has been important since antiquity, the Greeks had colonies along the coast trading with the Sycthian horselords, Mithtradites the Posion King an Tyrant of the black Sea Empire conquered it, until Rome conquered his empire during the Mithtraditic Wars.

Without the water from the reservoir near Kherson, Crimea's water supply will plunge, and that will also make it much harder to hold.

Ukraine isn’t going to let Russia hold onto Crimea. It’ll get nasty but in the end it will be in Ukraine’s hands.

I've seen a lot of people saying Ukraine shouldn't or couldn't take Crimea back, but that doesn't make a lot of sense to me. Even Russians need to eat and drink water, or else they die. And the sole source of fresh water is controlled by Ukraine. Turn off the tap, and a timer starts ticking down. Eventually Crimea would run out of water, forcing Russian soldiers to surrender or try drinking sea water. Either way, the problem solves itself.

Kind of wondering why the economic value is not mentionned, as vast gas and oil reserves have been discovered in and around Crimea. Let's be honest, money is the driving force here again. National identity is the excuse for the masses.

If I thought that Crimea would satisfy the Russians I'd say give it to them but it won't. I sympathize with their desire to protect their territory but their obstinate refusal to consider the rights of their neighbors makes this situation impossible to solve peacefully.

Regardless of what Ukraine can or should do. The civilized world has an ethical duty to ensure that Russia isn't allowed to keep lands taken by force.

Even if Ukraine collapsed completely and disappeared tomorrow Crimea needs to be removed from under Russia's grip

When the video refers to Kliment Voroshilov then appear a Vyacheslav Molotov picture tho
3:58
Edited : Kliment Voroshilov is actually in the picture, barely visible on the right side of Molotov, and apparently the one on the left side is Stalin

Ukraine should, can, and will take back all of Ukraine, including Crimea. And we should help them. That would be the fastest path to a lasting peace. Slava Ukraini!

Ukraine can definitely retake Crimea, but the timeframe is important. If the west gives Ukraine all the weapons it needs, Russia will be forced to compromise and the war will come to a quick close. But if the war goes on for possibly a couple of years, there will inevitably come a time when an invasion of Crimea will have to take place. When that happens, large numbers of troops and equipment will be gathered at the north of Crimea where a natural bottleneck forms. That is where tactical nukes might be used, and if that happens, NATO will be drawn into the war, and very bad things will happen for everyone. This has to be avoided. And we had better think now about what will happen with the large nuclear arsenal if the Russian federation breaks up, and what will happen with the large energy resources that will be up for grabs, because a lot of different powers around the world will be looking at them. There is a huge likelihood that things will go wrong. It is not going to be a piece of cake.

Great video but the guy at 4:01 is Molotov, Voroshilov is to his left.

Ukraine needs to take Crimea. There needs to be a lesson here for everyone. Bullies cannot prevail.
