Leans forward leans back? In relation to what? Here is the relationship that determines forward or backward How a forward slash or a back slash gets its directional determination is in the direction we read. We read right to left .... so if a slash leans to the right it is a Forward Slash, because it is moving in the direction of how we read. If it leans "against the grain" or to the left of how we read then it is determined to be a backslash. That is the answer people typically are looking for when asking the difference between the two.
