The Dark Corner is a 1946 American crime film noir directed by Henry Hathaway and starring Lucille Ball, Clifton Webb, William Bendix and Mark Stevens. The film was not a commercial success but has since been described as a "Grade A example of film noir."

Plot
Private investigator Bradford Galt has moved from San Francisco to New York to escape a troubled past. He blames his former partner Tony Jardine for his problems. Complicating matters, he is hounded by New York police lieutenant Frank Reeves and pursued by a thug in a white suit. The thug is forced to admit that he has been hired by Jardine.

Galt suspects that Jardine is trying to frame him for a murder, but Jardine is part of a wider-ranging conspiracy involving wealthy art gallery owner Hardy Cathcart. With the help of his sharp-witted secretary Kathleen, Galt is able to overcome all of these obstacles and clear himself.

Classic detective. Very good to see Lucille Ball as the female lead but never recognised the detective. The crime solved by leg work not a computer in sight. It was so good to hear all the actors clearly speaking so much is lost in modern movies in background music and sound effects. I think modern directors are too caught up in the technology and miss the acting and the drama . Give me an old movie any time.

*This is what I call a great film noir with all the elements to keep the audience entertained and guessing, even a car chase. It was a nice way to spend a while on a Sunday night. We are so lucky that these movies are here in such great condition and able to view for free. Many thanks to DK but how did you know a movie like **_The Dark Corner_** was just what I was looking for? That is uncanny!*

I really like and admire Lucy's style & grace, always did. I was born in '54 .... and I've just got to say it, "I ❤ Lucy".

I loved Bendix in "Life of Riley" on TV when I was a kid. took decades to catch up with what a serious movie career he had. My favorite: "Lifeboat."

An excellent thriller. Really enjoyed this one very much. Big fan of classic 40's thrillers and so nice to see that so many of them have been carefully restored over the past few decades. Thanks for uploading. Well worth watching.

In grade school we grew up recognizing the wonderful voice of Reed Hadley's introductory in the TV series Public Defender... the TV was on, and we would come running from different parts of the house and play to hear and see him. LOL

Lucille Ball was so beautiful ! I'd seen all the " Lucy Shows" before this. She must've been a name to reckon with in 1946, because she gets top billing here. I guess this ought to be before she branched out into comedy.

1:06:40 When he says “I’m backed up in a Dark Corner, and I don’t know who’s hitting me” was brilliant. The way he expressed his emotion just through the bannister flexing, using it both for support and an outlet of his internal frustration, knowing he didn’t do anything this time. Still appreciative of Lucille being by his side but subtly questioning whether it was worth it for her to still be along for the ride he most inevitably knew would end in his demise, grasping at straws, but digging deeply for the last hope of motivation to clear himself.
The noise resonated with what he was feeling. Great film!
Also a set inconsistency between the first staircase being straight to the office door, and when white suit leaves after getting his thumb smashed, its a set of two stairs 🙃

37:35 The closed captions said “chicken rice” instead of “cigarette”. 😂

Thank you for NOT butchering this 1 by deleting all credits, as you have done in more recent uploads, especially since it doesn't help you evade copyright sgrikes anyway!
